That sucks, holidays are about to come up to. More people losing jobs.

A St. Tammany Parish barge maker will close its fabrication yard on the Tchefuncte River by year's end, resulting in the loss of 336 jobs.

Trinity Marine Products Inc. announced Monday (Oct. 5) the closure of its Madisonville plant in a notice to the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The company stated in its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letter that the closure will begin on Dec. 4 and is expected to be complete by Dec. 30.

Damn another blow for St. Tammany. This combined with the Shell and Chevron layoffs might start affecting property values. Might be some good deals to be had in the short term.

Might want to tell them that. Since they've got an order for 100 more barges.

New contract is keeping that one afloat.

They'll be busy until summer with the current contracts. More will come.

Yep. That news came down last week to the workers.

We have a poster here that works at that place. Will let him decide if he wants to discuss the issue in more detail or not.

They rescinded that notice. Trinity received another contract and will continue to operate the Brusly facility.

The shutdown seems a little bit odd to me. I lived just downstream until about a month ago. They've been running 24/7 (as best as I can tell) for the last couple of years. Lights, sirens and iron plates banging all night, every night.

I guess they had a time sensitive contract to complete, but I was seeing several barges a week coming downstream.

But hey, I paid $1.75 a gal for gas today. Screw those people losing jobs.

Makes sense, I was under the impression they were crushing it in terms of the number of oil barges built and making good profits for Trinity Industries.

Seems to be an aggressive response by Trinity management, but the oil barge business is definitely slowing down.
