There's no doubt things have slowed down, but like I said, compared to the other sectors, it's one of the ones that are still staying fairly busy.

You keep saying "only 2 types of barges". As far as shipping goes the vast majority of barges fall into the hopper or tank category, so it's a little misleading. It's not as if there are really a plethora of barge types to build for River shipping. And the deck barges are usually built by the shipyards anyway.

yes, there are several different types of barges that trinity doesn't build. I'm not specifally referring to river transportation barges.

Oh, I agree, I was mainly referring to inland shipping.
Was having a conversation today about why they don't build (at least I've never come
across) reefer barges.

Well they are limited what they can build due to draft and space plus the size of the river makes it difficult to navigate going and coming from their yard, but to my knowledge deck barges, spud barges was never really part of their specialty and location makes it difficult for them to be any type of repair yard.

Oh definitely. They are designed for quantity and speed and have no real repair facilities. They're a barge factory.

I used to hunt right there in that pond growing up. Spent many mornings hungover sitting around it duck hunting (we built two blinds out there) and listening to the guys work

Word from inside the industry is that there is a lot more to the story than the market being weak that caused the shutdown.

But hey, I paid $1.75 a gal for gas today. Screw those people losing jobs.

I guess we should bring back $6 movie rentals from Blockbuster just so those people can get their jobs back.
