Yeah this sucks but it's not on the level of Katrina traffic.

Traffic has actually been no problem for me this week. Normally I drive a Prius and it's small enough to drive the shoulder, but this week I've been able to ride my Vespa between lanes on the interstate.

It doesn't help that people are playing in their phones in traffic not paying attention. It's likely how most I10 accidents happen. That and the spontaneous combustion of cars at major Intesections. I'm starting to think we are on some alien reality show like in south park and those little guys are cracking themselves up fricking up our day.

You should see hwy 1. I think when people get off the interstate onto hwy 1, they feel more comfortable about driving and using their phone so you have jackasses in the passing lane cruising along, talking or texting as if they are the only people on the road..

Took me an hour 45 to get from highland and state to highland and Siegen. LSU traffic accounted for the first hour to get across LSUs campus to highland and lee. After that it's usually easy going but took 45 minutes because that corridor has been packed with flood related traffic.

Do you live in BR or live in LP/AP and commute? Living in BR and getting around town on back roads hasn't been too bad this week even with the semester starting

It's been fine except for all the street flooding this afternoon. Had to turn around about 5 times because the water was too high. Went through one area that I couldn't tell was high and it ripped loose the plastic rock plate underneath my car....

Husband left work at 445 and still isn't home. This was typically a 15 minute drive at rush hour.

Really hope this simmers down soon.

So what usually takes him 15 mins is taking him 1hr and 30mins? Thats insane.

The rush hours this week have been stupefyingly bad, even by BR's own pathetic standards. But at least post-Katrina traffic could be attributed to tens of thousands of extra people in the city. I honestly don't know what the frick is going on this week. You can't move at all, and even the "back roads" are jammed the frick up.

Estimates are that Katrina added 100-120k people to BR for the month immediacy after the storm.

This is an influx of people from the same area that have now become more concentrated and still have the ability to be mobile. Add in the outside help and this is the traffic you get.

12 eastbound thru Livingston in the afternoons is worse
I've averaging 1:45 to get from BR to Hammond
almost 2hrs today
There's 2-3 miles of dead stop at every exit

Downtown traffic is horrible too, esp with portions of River Rd blocked off near the River Center.

You are absolutely right. I was wondering why DT was such as CF lately.

You cannot get to Mathernes to park at all.

This is nowhere near Katrina level. For 2 weeks after Katrina it would take me 45+ min to make it the 2 miles from work to home.

And what's up with tanker trucks turning over and spilling chemicals and/or catching fire...seems like it happens about once a week.
