(Reuters) - Toys ‘R’ Us Inc, the largest U.S. toy store chain, which filed for bankruptcy late Monday, will ask a judge on Tuesday for permission to borrow money so that it can start paying suppliers to ensure it has Lego building blocks and Barbie dolls for the holiday season. The Chapter 11 filing, to restructure $5 billion of long-term debt, is among the largest ever by a specialty retailer and casts doubt over the future of the company’s 64,000 employees and nearly 1,600 stores, which remain open. The collapse came swiftly.

I sure hope they don't cut back on their outgoing babies r us registry rewards....

We are due to have about $300 in rewards coming our way in October.

It's Chapter 11, not Chapter 7 so this is mostly about restructuring debt and getting some debt forgiveness.

Fun fact: The CEO of toys'r'us is David Brandon, the ex-UM athletic director who hired Brady Hoke.

What in the world do you buy there?

They are so overpriced it is ridiculous. Same exact things are 20-30% less on amazon or target

We got the bedroom furniture there and then registered there for a bunch of other stuff specifically for the back end rewards.

Costco and Amazon are our main sources of daily needs.

Price match. It is the only thing that gets me in a brick and mortar store anymore.

Yeah, I hate leftism as much as the average poliboard denizen but I don't know what it has to do with internet shopping crushing brick and mortar stores.

Babies R Us probably makes twice as much money as toys r us.

We should have created laws to destroy these job-killing companies long ago. Just think of all the horse and buggy shops that died off 100 years ago when the Ford Model T started being affordably mass produced. It's time to kill off technology and go back to an agricultural society while we still can.

Pretty sad that kids today will never know the joy of flipping through a Toys R Us circular and marking the toys they want for Christmas.

You didn't know Toy's R Us still existed? What backwoods part of Kentucky do you live in.

Makes we wonder if Mom and Pop specialty Toy Stores will open up and cater to those who still want the brick and mortar experience. Toy stores are just so fun. Remember when you were a kid and dreamed about going on the super toy run?
