My mom has a 2012 4Runner limited and I thought party mode made it louder but it's actually for if the hatch is open to play music at a tailgate or something

Correct, channels all sound to rear hatch for tailgating

A 4Runner is the vehicle my dad (no pics) has ever owned over the past 15 years. He has gone through a few models of course, but he swears by their reliability and most other things we look for when buying a car. I have driven it several times, and admittedly it is not the smoothest of all rides, but overall it seems like a pretty awesome SUV if that is what you're looking to buy.

I have a black 2014 SR% Premium 4x4

Pros: Looks good, drives nicely, and overall good handling (turning radius is a bit long). women like it

Resale is insane. this is my second and I'm about to sell it and get an older, more rugged model whil e this is still worth a ton

Cons: Mileage isn't very good. Also engine could be a big stronger. third row seat is a joke and just takes up cargo space

Owned a 1998 4Runner SR5 and then a 2000 4Runner.

Bought the '98 with 154K+ and the '00 with 138K+ miles. Someone totaled the '98 as I rolled over 209K miles. I have 217K miles on the '00 and will drive it until the wheels fall off.

That...or until I find a 2007-2009 4-Door Tundra for about $15K with <100K miles which should be relatively soon.

4runner is an awesome vehicle and the pros have been discussed in the thread. Cons would be not great gas mileage, not the best storage capacity, and rides like a truck compared to other SUVs in the same class (this is more for women who drive it).

my only complaint is the limited comes in full time 4WD and not part time 4WD. kills my gas mileage

I could def see that. I'm a huge fan of the new TRD 4runners, but they have a nice price tag.

I think it will have complete overhaul for 2016. Might not want to spend $$ on a new car to have the body style change completely in a few months...

I have an 2008 with 120k, plan on driving it until it falls apart, which is hopefully way down the road.

Pros: Understated man machine, decent enough cargo space, stiff suspension

Cons: Gas mileage isn't great, not super fancy on ineterior

If that's true, seems like way more redesigns recently than before (1980s - early 2000s).

PROS
- rather be driving this with all **FIVE** windows *AND* the sunroof open than a convertible.
- its a stick (fun as hell)
- 4WD and at 340k miles, i've only really changed the oil and timing belts every 100k.
- no car note
- best looking 4runner body style ever
- easiest toyota 'tinkertoy' ever..so many people own the 3rd gen you can find info on virtually ANYTHING you want to do to it.
- simple interior - no fancy computer shite. i like my 4runner like i like my washer & dryer..old school and easy to work on.
- its a toyota and the guys on top gear couldnt break it even by blowing up a building underneath it.

cons
- no pickup bed (trailer hitch hauler works well though)
- they don't make the 3rd gen anymore

errr i mean

Did you move your exhaust to vent out the side? Terrible design flaw of the back vent causes your exhaust to get sucked back in the rear window.

I have had a 2004 for years and put insanely hard miles on it driving throughout college across the country. Cali, Colorado, Miami, New York, Michigan, etc.

I have had literally not one issue with it besides a dead battery once.

Not talking just cars here, its the most reliable machine I've ever owned.

They just overhauled it in 2014, they won't change it again for another 3 model years or so.
