For rapists and murderers.

And speaking of deterrents, it would be impossible for this guy to have got his 7th DUI had he been put away on his 3rd offense. I'd say in that regard it's a damn good deterrent.

I agreed he should be in jail and said I think 3rd offense should equal jail time and no license for life. I promise this rich white dude just needed a short sentence in the federal pen to get his mind right.

I think we agree more than either of us realize here. I'm all for giving second chances to someone who makes one mistake. The one's I want to see locked up for a long time are the one's like this guy who get one DUI after another.

I think our point of disagreement is about length of sentence. DUI's with no victims don't deserve life.

But 3rd offense no doubt short prison sentence (not local jail), lifelong license removal, and obscene amounts of community service.

Maybe even a suspended 10 year prison sentence so if they get caught behind a wheel they are donezo.

What about the guy that killed those people in St. Frans while driving drunk for the 100th or so time.. The Judge cut his sentence in half and his lawyer still says that's not fair to him and he wants it reduced even more????

So a young college kid who got busted driving around campus 3 times drunk should go to jail for 10 frickING YEARS?

That is so ridiculous. Suspend the sentence and make them do 10 years of community service after a month in prison and suspend their license for life.

Do you consider it murder when a drunk driver who rides around blitzed on a daily basis runs over someone in a drunken stupor?

Remember, this guy's had 7 DUIs. Statistically, he's driven drunk over 700 times. I don't know how you can brand this anything other than murder when (and not if) he kills someone.

Man, I don't want to hear shite about small town southern politics. This is so blatantly corrupt, it's nauseating.

I love how "young college kid" somehow =/= legal adult. Stop justifying dangerous, shitty behavior that is counterproductive to society. And no, I've never driven drunk. Ever.

Well this is a different matter but a good one to bring up. I see car after car every morning and afternoon on my way to and from work where the driver is surfing the web or texting. I'd want to see some research on the matter but it does seem logical to me that they would be just as much of a hazard to others as a drunk driver.

Have you read this thread?

I think he should be in jail and said multiple times if you kill someone while driving drunk you should be in jail.

Wtf are people reading?

I wonder sometimes what is so wrong about being kind of archaic with punishments of certain types of crimes. One DUI is a warning basically/night in the drunk tank. Second and you lose a finger.
