by monsterballads they cite "cost" as to why they won't do anything about 110/10 but want to work on 190 lol

She's right. It all has to do with federal funding.

She also turned down a lot of federal guarantees bc it looked better on the books for Jindal.

So we didn't get a ton of money needed for interstates and bridges.

That means you and everyone you know are the ones who opposed the loop. In other words, you and your friends are idiots.

so instead of sitting in traffic on the bridge waiting to get beyond Washington St, you get to drive all the way around WBR and BR only to wait in heavy traffic from Gov't st to washington st.

great plan...

these are the people in charge. they're idiots.

Yep.

They don't want it in their backyard, but want an area where the locals don't use the interstate to have their places uprooted.

frick them. I like my neighborhood the way it is.

Then quit bitching about sitting in traffic

I don't bitch about BR traffic. I bitch about BR drivers. Mass transit fixes to this problem are a waste of money and time. I offer Houston as anecdotal evidence. They have HOV lanes, a far superior mass transit system, trains, buses, etc. And they also have some horrendous traffic. IMO its the result of sprawl and large suburban population. BR is the same. Its a commuter city that doesn't lend itself to the mass transit solution. Add to that the fact that we are ridiculously behind with these types of infrastructure developments, and I think the money would be better spent on another bridge between EBR/ASC.

Exactly. Look at the people in this very thread trying to argue that the quaint little Perkins Road Overpasss area is "over congested."

I'm for a loop, or some semblance of a loop. It could be a couple of by-passes, it doesn't have to be a true circle, but we do need a means to circumvent downtown BR.

But even with the loop, or by-pass; we still need to upgrade I-10 from the Westbank to the junction with I-12. It's ridiculous to have a situation at the Washington Street exit that we have presently.

The fix is installing an extra lane from the current merge off the bridge all the way to the split. If you go the to the meeting tonight at the River Center, you will hear that they plan on doing it in the space that they have. The overpass whiny people will have their businesses disrupted while they build it, but the total footprint of the interstate will not change. This will be DOTD's best attempt to make it happen and it appears the political capital is there this time.

I'd like to see this map. I don't know how they can add a lane from the lakes to Perkins right now. Just doesnt seem like there is enough room without encroaching on houses.

How about closing the Washington exit and relining before adding new lanes?

LeBas is an idiot, Jindal crony.

Can't wait till she's gone.

Say what you want about her politics, but she has made some positive headway while she has been there. She has come up through the ranks of DOTD starting out being a design engineer. She has been one of the better Secretaries that DOTD has employed. I don't say nice things often about government employees, especially state employees since most of them can't see past the end of their nose. Being an engineer who specifically works in civil site design, government agency employees are the bane of my existence.

Again, everyone who has any interest in the widening at the bridge should come out and see how they plan to do it in the existing space. Went to a lunch last week where Sheri talked about it, but she didn't offer any specifics.

Eliminating the Washington street exist without adding a lane adds 400' to the capacity. That is equivalent to 25 cars. Why even bother? There are not that many cars getting off there. I agree Washington Street exit is pointless, but it is not currently the problem. Though, it would become a problem if you added the extra lane.

The BR interstate system could improve a lot if people would use the left lane as its intended. I say take some of this construction money, add more troopers on the road who's sole focus is to bust people clogging the left lane, and any remaining dollars can go to the prisons where the offenders are serving 8-10 years.
