Eliminating the Washington street exist without adding a lane adds 400' to the capacity. That is equivalent to 25 cars. Why even bother? There are not that many cars getting off there. I agree Washington Street exit is pointless, but it is not currently the problem. Though, it would become a problem if you added the extra lane.

I agree, closing Washington St. and not adding the extra lane to the split is of little value. It would prevent the maniacs who cut over from I-110 to try and exit there, but that's about it.

Maybe a little. Huey P. Bridge Approaches and Superstructure was $350 million back in 2007. That doesn't include the substructure, which i believe was another 250-350 mill.

the simple solution is to put in a toll loop...they're all over Texas, the Capital Beltway in Virginia, new interstates in the Chicago area...

works pretty well...

It's not simple math. The issue are all the people trying to immediately merge.

The issue is 18 wheelers on the interstate. Come 5 o'clock, the line starting past lobdell through the split and on through I12 is composed of about 65-70% freight traffic. Not to mention every day one of these things breaks down right on top the interstate.

I completely agree. Many times I am in traffic and get to the front I realize it is because of inconsiderate people doing some wild merging. It really doesn't benefit anyone to just sit in line. You may as well get on the shoulder or jump into another onramp's merge lane and get ahead of everyone.

Traffic in BR would be so much better if people were not always trying to skip to the front of the line.

ETA: I would also like to see cops giving tickets for lane changing. In BR if you have more than a car length between you and the car in front of you then someone will move in there. These are the same people who are trying to skip to the front of merge lanes. Anytime something like that happens everyone has to brake behind them. Everyone.

The much bigger issue is what causes the initial build up. Without addressing that, it doesn't matter how people drive (to a degree anyway).

I definitely agree there. Have to address that. The problem is just exacerbated by everyone being completely inconsiderate when they merge or pass.

Why?

Widening the interstate would probably raze his place of business.

He has every right to be opposed.

Widening the interstate inside the city is just increasing the bottle neck.

Build a loop, another bridge, or something like that. Last thing we need is a wider interstate INSIDE the city. So, so, so stupid. It would be better to spend 5x more on a loop than $350 million on a dumb fricking project like this.

It would help A LOT. You must own a bar on Perkins.

BR needs a wider interstate from Washington Street to the split and a loop.

The engineering was terrible. The downramp from the bridge narrowing to one lane, terrible. Having the main artery (I-10) with fewer lane than the spur(I110) was terrible. The bridge entrance ramp from the East side heading west was designed wrong causing trucks major problems. No East bound entrance ramp on Dalrymple was poor planning. No shoulders on the old portions of the interstate was poor engineering. building the interstate bisecting the Lakes, and downtown BR was poor planning.

You realize I was talking about the expansion/loop drawings?

A proposal to build a new bridge across the Mississippi River near Baton Rouge that could reduce interstate traffic congestion in the city has received support so far from the Louisiana Legislature.

Because of financing issues, however, the earliest a feasibility study of the "West Bank Connector" project would likely commence is August 2015, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Secretary Sherri LeBas tells The Advocate.

quote:

Possible locations for the bridge are between Brusly and Addis, south of Addis and between Plaquemine and St. Gabriel.

The $800 million price tag of the bridge would add to the $12 million backlog road and bridge projects in need of funding.

Looks like this is a ballpark figure but does not address the access roads...

He has every right to be opposed, but his business site isn't as close as others, and unless I'm reading the map wrong, he is safe.

I'm sorry. I misunderstood.

Yes, the loop "campaign" lacked good information. You are right about that.

You should really do some research before decided to fix stuff.

His business shares the same building as Ivars, which gets destroyed.

Plus, what about the houses that are against the interstate right there?

Those are 500,000+ that may have to be bought and torn down.

I was a kid riding my bike from North of the RR tracks to see my buddies in Southdowns. There was a bike trail where we'd cross the RR tracks to get to one of the side streets there to get to Perkins.

One day I made the trek over and came across a construction fence. It had me puzzled. I didn't know it, but they were building the interstate.

That was 50 years ago or so.

So no, I won't ever see the loop, or the bridge, or I-10 finally fixed; but I think its the right thing for BR so I want to push and do what I can to get things done.

I did.

No, his building is adjacent to the building that Ivar's is in. Troy's Barbershop shares the building with Bolton's.

That is another issue.

Perhaps, if they did then that would be something to consider.
