Then how would you be able to call CPS on them if you don't know where they live?

I guess you could call the police next time the kid shows up alone at your house, but I'd still make an effort to figure out which house was his and talk to the parents first.

Tough call, Clyde, but I'd keep a close eye on it.

If I was going to make a call, it'd probably to the cops first. They see more situations like this, and theyshould be able to determine if this is "normal" in "your neighborhood."

And they'd know who to call if it was or wasn't.

Good for you to care, also not to knee jerk.

"ugggh.. This CPS? Yeah. Look, they got this lil dude outside my house. The other day he was standing out in the rain. My kids told me that he is 6 and his 8 year old brother watches him when his parents working. Can yall do something?"

"What? Where he lives? Ummmmm. I don't really know".

Definitely talk to the parents first. Who knows if the kids story is even true- be a good neighbor and walk the kid home next time you see him out and about or ask around about where he lives.

Oh the humanity. How did we survive as a society for thousands of years?

If you think leaving an 8 yr old at home alone and responsible for a 6yr old is a good idea you're a fricking idiot.

You don't know anything about this family or their routine. For all you know, their work could be around the corner or down the street. With cameras in the house. Or a cell phone call away from the 8 year old. Who knows.

All I know is that I was 7 or 8 years old growing up and left to do as I pleased outside or whatever. I would ride miles from the house. As long as my parents knew what I was doing and approximately where I was going. It can work for some 8 year olds.

Would I let my 8 year old watch a 6year old? No. But it's borderline within reason. Doesn't warrant calling CPS at first glance.
