Nope, you paid a fricking delivery charge already! Like another poster said, offer a bottle of water and send 'em off...

This came up last week at the house - I had never heard of tipping a delivery man. I know you tip movers cash, but didn't know about appliance/furniture delivery.
The answer is generally no, especially if you're paying a delivery fee. If you don't know if you're paying a fee, it's OK to call the store and ask if tipping is expected.

No, but I learned from my daddy you gotta be cordial with these guys. Offer them a coke or water

I noticed that my brother in law tipped the people who delivered his fridge. I think he gave them a 20 to split. I don't know about that. I guess people do it, but it kind of seems like tipping gone out of control.

ETA: offering a water is just common decency.

yes, they get paid very little, for a job that requires heavy lifting, in and out of the heat all day, and will probably hook your new washer and dryer up for you.

I tip everyone. Pretty much. You think that $10 means more to you or him?

Broke college kid here, where do you live? I want to stop by and grab some money from you since it means a lot more to me than you.

I've hired movers three times. I've never tipped them. It really never crossed my mind. I guess I'm an a-hole.

No guessing about it. At least not from the movers. They know you are an a-hole.

I had a motorcycle delivered today, and had no cash on me. Offered to go to ATM literally a hundred yards away and the guy declined to wait, so I guess he wasn't counting on the tip.

I didn't tip mine, but they didn't hook it up. I got "free" delivery from the store, but would have had to pay for hookups and hauling off old appliances. It was a washer and dryer, so I just hooked it all up myself. All they did was unbox them and sit them inside.

I did tip the guy that delivered the tub I ordered though. It was supposed to be a door delivery. I had a pregnant wife, and asked him if he could help me get it inside. He said he wasn't supposed to do that, but then asked me where we were putting it. It was just a few rooms into the main floor, so he unboxed it for me, and helped me carry it about 40 feet. I gave him a water and $10. He tried to refuse the cash, but I insisted.
