Yup, here's the a-hole right here.

Too bad you can't see the coffee, or tell its Greece, but I promise it is.

On second thought there is graffiti in the picture so you know its Athens.

I've come to the conclusion that the majority of people don't actually know what that means, but they have been told that it is bad and use it as an insult for people who's political ideologies do not match their own. This also goes for calling someone a socialist or communist.

I'm not personally calling you out, but I think it gets a bit overplayed. Even if it is probably appropriate in this instance.

I agree with you that many people use the terms socialism, communism, and Marxism without knowing what it means. It bothers me when people misuse those words too. I'm actually an economics major though.

ETA: I'm sure most of the people who were those shirts couldn't tell you anything about Marxism.

A physician and Castro's second in command during the Cuban revolution, Fidel sent him to stir up revolution in South America to keep him from being a rival. Assassinated, allegedly by Bolivian police, but it was probably American Green Berets who actually pulled the trigger.

Before he went to Cuba, Che treated lepers in Brazil, and libertarian Murray Rothbard called him a "heroic figure." A complicated figure, and not easily pigeonholed, despite attempts by both the left and right.

He also looked a little bit like the young Michael Corleone

This is why I find him interesting. He is often categorized as a ruthless killer, but then you read about some very good things he did for his people

The fact Che was a Marxist is settled historic fact. His role in the Marxist movement in Cuba, Central America, and South America is well known and widely documented. Considering it was his role in spreading Marxism that actually made him a historic figure, I don't see how you think this point "overplayed".

As for what is appropriate in describing him, the first word I'd use is murderer considering the fact he was in fact a cold blooded murderer.

murderer is implied with marxist. What socialist/marxist leader never murdered anyone?

I think you didn't understand where I said:

It is more of the point that people generally like to knock someone for being Marxist/Socialist/Communist, but really don't know what they are talking about.

All fricking clueless idiots. Guevara was a psychopath coward and was overrated in every possible aspect except for cowardice. He openly advocated using nuclear weapons against us and was responsible for imprisoning and executing thousands of political opponents and dissidents- including people who had long hair and listened to the Beatles and Ramones. Thank god he got a bullet put in his head, but not before he pleaded for his life like a dog.

Well if you consider the hundreds of millions killed in the past century all in the name of Communism, you may just have a point.

" To this I must point out that, while Che did indeed execute people [an episode I have gone into at length in my book] I have yet to find a single credible source pointing to a case where Che executed 'an innocent'. Those persons executed by Guevara or on his orders were condemned for the usual crimes punishable by death at times of war or in its aftermath: desertion, treason or crimes such as rape, torture or murder. I should add that my research spanned five years, and included anti-Castro Cubans among the Cuban-American exile community in Miami and elsewhere.

Try reading a good book on the subject:

Exposing the Real Che Guevara by Humberto Fontova.

Che died in 1967. The Ramones didn't form until 1974.

I agree that many don't have a full understanding of these. Most of them however have been fooled into thinking they do understand what they are.

Yes, they weren't 'innocent' because they were found guilty in the court of Castro and Guevara. The book I referenced documents dozens of executions of political opponents and people with ideologies that offended Che.
