Went first time this past December and would go again.

You don't have to be catholic or spirtual.

Brought a lot of reading and some whisky.

Incredibly relaxing and the meals are some awesome soul food.

The grounds are pretty beautiful too.

Checked in with my wife once or twice (no service in room) in the parking lot.

Other then that, it's no issue staying silent.
Being silent for 3 days actually made me appreciate silence more in everyday life.

I also made all the talks and enjoyed those as well.

so things like this arent frowned upon by the others that are there? that is good to know.

Never had any issues. There's a good line I heard my first year that stuck with me " Everyone comes here for their own reasons, just respect each others reasons and don't speak"

I think my dad used to go with the 49ers. Isn't that what you call them? If so, I went about 5 times and would. Love to go again. Unfortunately, my pop can no longer make it.

I am 30 and I've gone 5 years in a row. This May will be my 6th. I bring one spiritual book, a nice comforter, a can of dip, and a bottle each of Lagavulin and Cotes De Rhone. I love vacationing with the family and hiking in the moutains, but this place is dedicated to listening to God. It is my favorite weekend of the year.

My dad goes every year and loves it. Not sure I could do it, but he says it's pretty great just getting away and clearing your head.

You should get a clue by the number of repeat attendees.

I am in group 43A. It is always around Halloween. Most groups go from Thursday to Sunday. Mine is one of the few groups that start on Sunday night and end after lunch on Wednesday. The good thing about this schedule is that it can't conflict with an LSU game.

The purpose is to get away from all the daily distractions...Internet being one of them.

Now if you want to use your tablet for scripture, etc, go ahead.

There aren't laws there--it's not a prison. If you spend your time in your room on the phone and Internet, you are cheating yourself of the very reason for going there.

...and in our group, golf clubs are frowned upon, and our captain will let you know

Sounds cool. Would love to go sit in the woods and smoke cigars for 3 days however I like to meet people and get to know their stories...the no talking would get to me.
