Those who've taken the GMAT: how much prep work did you put in?

I'm a pretty good test taker, but havent taken any long test remotely similar to this since the ACT in highschool.

The program I'm looking in to has a minimum required score of 500.

I didn't do a damn thing, but it's a whole different ballgame now.

I looked at one of those prep books a couple days before I took it and scored higher than a 500.

I bypassed the GMAT by having over a 3.0 undergrad GPA and over 7 years of work experience. I was always told never go straight to an MBA right after undergrad.

I need to call their admissions. Have got right at 3.0 myself with about 7 years as well.

I think that's what most non-professional graduate schools require

I scored a 650 on the GMAT. My recommendation would be to take the practice test a couple times. And then begin studying. The question format can be confusing but most of the knowledge required is similar to the ACT. Questions are designed to trick you though.

My first practice test without studying was over a 500. If you are actually trying to make yourself look better with a couple weeks of hard studying you can really improve your score. It's not about learning the material as much as learning how to answer their questions. Practice problems are your friend.

You'd recommend that he does all that work when he only needs to score a 500? That doesn't seem like effective time management

I'm a good test taker but I should've spent much more time prepping the first time. Prepped for about 7-10 days and I was just inside the top 40 %

Edit: 500 will be easy to get tho

You could probably guess at every single question and score a 500.

Haha umm shitty ones maybe. Here are the conditions for a waiver from NC State's MBA program, which isn't even that great.

If he is okay scoring a 500 then he can study as little as he would like. I studied a total of about 10 hours of actual studying and 4-5 hours of semi-distracted studying.

Oh, never mind. I was referring to entry requirements.

Yeah it's Univ of Nebraska's online MBA. It's a pretty good degree and a very good price.

Not trying to go to Yale here.

I got a 590 on a practice test without studying. Studied the Princeton book and took practice tests 4-6 hours a day for 2.5 weeks and got a 710. I'd take the free test online on the gnat website and see if you even need to study at all.

Don't do the online MBA thing if you have a choice.

Why not?

ETA: I'm currently looking at UNC's online MBA program.
