it's fricking bullshite. Can't get shite done if people aren't in the office. People become completely undependable.

I can understand working from home at need (I've done it a couple of times from traveling) or every once in a blue moon. But someone literially decided to work from home because they "slept in too much for work." They live 15 minutes away. But they've "got to much to do for work" to to take that time to come in

Someone working from home today blew up on my on chat because I was asking about a work function (a primary facet of their job) because they didn't know how without their in office notes. This person had not done one thing after 11AM.

I can't. I ain't the boss. My boss is unwilling to implement a policy because otherwise theyd have to hold themselves to it. They at least will respond within 20 minutes. I know their boss definitely doesn't approve but won't do anything because that's micromanaging.

This is why I enjoy working a job where your income is the result of output of an actual product (commission-esque). If you want to work from home go for it. You want to work at the office, sure. You don't want to work at all, we don't care since you're not getting paid if you don't work.

Whenever I try and work from my home my wife constantly asks me to watch my son or do other random shite around the house.

This is a common excuse of lazy fricks.

Depends on what you're working on. If I'm writing or designing something, the time before or after work with no one there is the absolute best to get stuff done.

My whole team of 30+ work from home and are very productive and successful professionals. I get a lot more done at home than at the office where I have to listen to stupid conversations about last night'so episode of Housewives.

ETA: Sounds like your coworkers are just lazy and immature.

Maybe it's a different situation but I can get exponentially more done at home than at my office. I am in charge of our network around the world and people sometimes seem to think that this means I'm also help desk and will bypass our help desk to come ask me some inane question that is a distraction for me. So if I'm in the middle of reconfiguring a firewall on the other side of the world, telling someone to ask the help desk about their printer problem still breaks my concentration.

Whether I'm in the office, at a client's site, or at home, I'm logging into the same networks and data repositories to get my job done. My phone line at the office is routed to my cell phone because I have the flexibility to be where I'm needed at any given time. My office is literally anywhere in the world with an internet connection and, yes, if I'm not needed in the office or onsite, the time I spend commuting to the office or a client's site is time I can spend on either more billable hours or time I can spend for me instead of on commuting if I work from home.

I'll get off your lawn now, gramps.

Working from home affords many benefits to both the employee and employer, but you're right, there are people who are not cut out for it. And it's so obvious who slacks off at home and who doesn't, despite the hilarity of some folks thinking they can fly under the radar.

I've often wondered if it was legal or ethical or whatever to require someone to take retroactive PTO when it's clear they did nothing on a day they were home.

To be fair, sometimes people have legit reasons to not come into the office, but don't want to burn a personal business day.

For example, I once worked from home on a Friday to have sex with my gf and then take her to a Cubs game.

I work from home now. It's an adjustment but as long as I stay focused on making money, I'm good. Nothing wrong with it if you can stay focused.

1. put a stop to it.

2. interview other candidates.
