I'm 55 and have thought about it many times. I went for four semesters when I got out of high school but lost interest. I didn't know all of what was available and my guidance counselor was bad-I can see this in hindsight.

I am in a sourcing/supply chain management role for an oil and gas company. Really fun field. Allows you to focus on the true business side of procurement rather than the traditional paper pushing. Very diverse work. I've done everything from major commodity hedges to planning the purchasing of uniforms for the company. I recommend this path if you get bored easy and like different challenges. Also, if you enjoy negotiating. Good luck

In reverse order those define me to a T. Man this thread went exactly opposite of how I thought.

I just KNEW I'd get a, "The School of Hard Knock's Hookers and Blow program is pricey but awesome!"

I got that advice when I was deciding in my early 20's and it's just a hard truth. The only thing you'll have is regret and having aged. I used it to stay motivated.

A lot of my classmates went into the procurement/purchasing side and are doing pretty well in their young roles. I myself didn't find that to be as interesting as the logistics, so I made my move to this side. There are a lot of certs available in purchasing as well that can open up new opportunities. I also have an AS in construction mgmt , so my role works out perfect for me in an area that is consumed in commercial and industrial construction.

How long have you been working?

I'm giving it some thought but most likely won't because I don't see a benefit right now. Hard work, dedication, and experience trumps anything I would learn in the classroom at this point.

I started as an analyst in the project management side. I enjoyed it at first but realized since I wasn't an engineer that my ceiling was pretty low. I moved to strategic procurement as an analyst and have been really happy with the work. Never really looked back. To do sourcing right, you really need to become a subject matter expert on the categories you are purchasing. It's challenging but fun if you like learning.
