Get a chromecast instead. It's cheaper and only $35. Works perfectly

Can use it with netflix, hulu, espn3, HBOgo etc.

Yeah I prefer Chromecast over the others too, but I didn't suggest that one because he apparently has an old smart phone, and using a regular remote is probably less scary for certain people.

Get a Harmony universal remote. They're about $200 and have the capability to control everything in your house, including but not limited to your wife's uterus.

Sorry but the technology simply does not exist at the moment. Your only hopes are to purchase a computer the size of a television and watch on that or get a very large magnifying glass to make your computer screen really big. The latter would be cheaper.

This will piss you off for sure-I couldn't name a single Beyoncé/Kanye West song, never watched The Kardashians and can't name a single starter for The Washington Wizards. That's why I ask people who know this stuff, like my OT peeps.

It moved. Definitely feel a bromance brewing.

It's like these kids have no appreciation for us being adults and providing for our families.

Keeping up with IT technology will probably help you run that company, FWIW.

Roku. Get it at best buy for $100. It also has way more than Netflix. It's pretty awesome.

This. We have a smart tv with netflix and other apps installed but still prefer the Roku over it. Easier to navigate imo than the smart tv apps.

Plus the amount of content on the roku is awesome. And the roku 3 you can plug headphones into the remote and watch whatever you want late at night without disturbing anyone else(as a night owl I love this feature).

Here is what I want:

*Local news channels.
*Standard cable channels. ESPN, News channels, HGTV, SEC network, Bravo, AMC, etc.
*HBO.
*Some kind of Netflix content-provider.

Currently I have Directv with every channel imaginable. And I'm paying for all these crappy movie/sports channels that I never watch. I'm an outdoor guy/ music guy /film guy, so I always have music playing or a movie on if I'm home. My satellite radio is more important to me than my television watching. Besides CFB and the NFL, I just DVR crap and watch it later. I enjoyed Netflix because it let me scratch my documentary itch.

What a terrible excuse. It's not that hard to keep up with technology. Plenty of people are running a much more successful company and raising much better kids than you, all while keeping up with technology.

I love when people try to put someone down for knowing more than them.

Love my roku 3. Definitely worth it and functional as hell if you have some cable credentials worth a shite.

Roku is what you need. You'll be able to stream Netflix, watch ESPN, and lots of other channels straight to your TV. I've cut my direct TV to one of the cheap packages+HBO because I watch more than half of my content on the roku now.

Roku will also have Pandora, amazon music, etc to stream music through your home theater.

Don't feel alone bru. I quit watching cable a long time ago and still have a flip phone. I'd get rid of this damn cell phone if I could. Life's just fine without all that stuff.

You've got this all wrong Sarah. People like to "put us down" for not having the type of friends that are submerged in technology because our friends are too busy with their careers to dedicate the time necessary to keep up with these tech advances.

That's a LOT of hostility because a guy doesn't watch tv the right way. Damn. I come here humbly and with self-deprecation with what I realize and admit is a deficiency in my knowledge, and now I suck at life?

Have you ever considered that people may not know about what they don't care about? Have you ever considered that what seems like a normal frame of reference to you is not normal to someone else?

Some other things I know very little about would include; hunting, the country of Myanmar, basic principles of electricity, knitting, chemistry, Lesbian Dance Therapy, Hip Hop, nuclear engineering, upholstering, quilting, Zoroastrianism and Major League Soccer. You should sue the shite out of me.

I appreciate all the explanations and Roku sounds like a plan. In ten years when that is obsolete I will return for more condescending and serious remarks from really, really serious people who are threatened by people who take watching television very, very seriously.

The ironic thing is that the OP made this post in order to keep up with current technology but people are giving him a hard time.

It's all about priorities. As you get older, you pick up more responsibilities and keeping up with tech topics might rank low on the priority list. With the Internet, I'd much rather spend time with my family and ask questions like the OP when I need a quick answer.
