Marriage was never particularly sanctified. All of you Episcopalians can ask Henry VIII how "holy" the institution of marriage is.
I think selfies are pretentious and irritating, but I think it's pretty great that these people are doing their best to cooperate and get along for the sake of their kids. You only get one life - make the best of it, and be happy.

Why do people have such a difficult time with using "I" and "me" correctly?

I appreciate their reasoning for an amicable divorce. Two happy divorced parents that get along and agree with how to raise their kid is better than married parents that hate each other and fight all the time.
Agreed.

There's still a stigma associated with divorce so they're trying to put something positive and cheesy out before all their caddy friends start gossiping about them getting a divorce.

From counting the rings I judge her to be about 8 years-old....

Stigmas used to be a good thing. Cheating, Bankruptcy, Divorce, Stealing, Banging the Underaged. Now these things are perfectly ok as long as you post a selfie.

America'a decline is real and swift.

It was a very similar scenario when I got divorced. When we decided to split, we sat down and talked things over. We both agreed that we were no longer the right person for each other and it was time to move on. We had a child and that night when we were talking about it, we both agreed from the very start that he was our #1 priority. We agreed to both keep the peace and work through things as adults for his sake. We didn't want him to see us fighting and we didn't want any of that to have a negative impact on him.
We knew things would get tense in the process and it did at times. There were times I had to just bite my tongue and let things go. It was difficult because I have a short fuse, but I did it for him. I had to remind myself that while she may no longer be my wife, she's still his mom. I had to put myself in my kids shoes. What would I do if I saw someone pissed at my mom, I'd beat their arse.
So it all worked out in the end. I'm happy and remarried. She's doing what she does. Our kid is great, he excels in school and is a really good kid. Teachers are shocked when they find he comes from a split home. They tell us they had no idea and he doesn't show any of the signs kids typically do from split homes.
She and I both attend all school functions and sporting events that we can. I might miss one here or there and she might as well.
When we are both there, we sit together.
As far as the selfie thing, I think selfies are stupid, but I know exactly where they are coming from with it. When our divorce was final, I asked her if she wanted to go out for a drink to celebrate.

They can get along great outside of marriage and not in a marriage. Happens all the time. Totally different relationship dynamics.
Happened to my parents for a few years (until my mom started dating someone else right after the alimony ran out).

These people are ruining the sanctity of marriage, and their children. If you marry someone, procreate with them, then it is your parenting duty to deal with your issues and be loving parents to your kids. Cool, your kids won't have to choose which parent to run to in the auditorium, but they will forever be scarred and wondering why their parents are shite.
This is the stupidest thing I've ever read. You sir are an idiot.

The only divorces I know of where they still got along great and were "friends" were when the guy was either gay, or just hadn't told everyone he was gay. Honestly. Not saying it can't happen, but that's my experience. Yeah some people are cordial, but never to the point of being able to hang out with each other.

Yeah, until Chris Neuman brings his new stripper girlfriend to the school play and mommy starts bitching about dad's new trashy girlfriends boobs hanging out.

At first. But what happens 3-5 years in when you're no longer the fun single guy. How are Christmas and thanksgiving alone? Getting your meal from Smith and Wollensky by yourself.

So basically because two people decide to get divorced and aren't assholes to each other, that means it's "the death of traditional marriage"

Because at least half of these people are known to trifle. Probably more in this particular case.
