Yep. Tonga Island. Used to ride my bike there from campus then swerve my way back to the dorm (Before Layton).

What were your friends initials? And what years did he live there?

This is like a trip down memory lane. These were all places from the early to mid 80's. Thanks.

You remember that place where Wendy's is now on North 18th across from the library? Frank Walkers I think was the name? The guy was a big golfer. He used to practice all the time at Muny on the hole right by Parkview Baptist Church. He taught me more about how to play golf than Johnny Myers did and I lived at Muny as a kid.

oh i'm just a babe in the woods. ole geauxt can wax eloquent about the bar in the middle of 165 near the bottle shop with a chicken that would play a piano.

gibsons became howard brothers and i spent more time in the 'special' howard brothers toy barn behind the store than i did in kern's kiddie land or howard griffin.

i remember when that wendys was built....packed every sunday. took away some of the traffic from bonanza a block away..ranch steak for the win! (never quite figured out what cut of meat the 'ranch steak' was but it was only like $3.50 and you got that free salad bar)

my 'uptown christmas' experience was going to the Palace, then back down 18th for some 'sears/jcpenney' action (taking the little shortcut between the 2 stores

sears candy counter was the GOAT. you could smell those chocolate covered peanuts before you walked into the store.

2, 4...what? THREE?

LOL. Yes, I remember that Bonanza and that steak.

I loved some Howard Griffin Land of Toys and I think my dad bought my first shotgun (a H&R 20 gauge single shot) from Howard Brothers.
