Exciting news! Only bad thing is there will be no air conditioning. Just vents. It will have wifi though.

quote:

Each cabin is capable of holding 8 adults, which means the potential capacity per hour is around 5,000 people, which should be more than sufficient for all but the extreme peak times. The cabins are not expected to have air conditioning (it will have air vents that provide passive cooling), but will have wifi (so you can make that dinner reservation, naturally).

quote:

The good news is that this model of gondola is large enough to handle wheelchairs, strollers, and even a small ECV. The system is designed to move slow enough to allow access even without stopping the system. Loading is typically at ground level with the cars rapidly lifting into the air after departing the station.

Great. Now the scooter jockeys will have to exert even less energy getting across the park.

LOL at trying to make dinner reservations at the park. Have to make those like 6 months in advance.

My grandma bought a gondola from the '84 World's Fair a few years ago. It sits outside her house and she keeps mannequins in it.

She's a big stoner so it sort of makes sense.

The bad thing is that it's at Disney World.

That place must be swimming in cash. I remember that place being packed 10 years ago but you could still make reservations when you got there for your trip and be OK.

I remember the old one that was in Magic Kingdom that would take you from one end of the park to the other. Looking in the comments, someone else remembers it too.

It was there when I first went in 1986, but not there when I went back in 1999.

Wiki on SkyWay

Apparently it was opened in 1956 and closed in 1999. No reason given other than they were renovating many other parts of the park at the time.

I can see how Disney would be fun for a kid, I don't understand the fascination of it with adults though. The food is horrible, the place is insanely crowded, the rides are tame compared to Six Flags and such, and I would just rather do basically anything in the world other than go there unless I was taking my kids.

They never removed the original cable car stations. They just coveredthem up with decorations. They are near Space Mountain and the haunted Mansion.

I think they were torn down a few years ago. Could be wrong though.
