daycare for 2 kids was like a little over 18k a year (750+ per kid a month). When they got old enough sent them to private school and still got a "raise".
Although, more power to those daycares. No fricking way in hell id be able to watch other peoples kids.

I have two going in at once while the ole' lady goes back to school. Estimates for full time day care are around 1600-2000 dollars a month.
Solution: hire nanny

$1500 a month at my kids' daycare.

I pay $714 per kid per month right now
so 2 kids is costing me $1428, a freaking mortgage payment
for a lot of people, it makes sense for one of the parents not to work

If you can afford it, the absolute best way to go is a nanny with an education background. If you're lucky enough to find a co-ed that takes night classes to do it 5 days a week you are golden.

Imagine paying that and your kid comes home and says one of the employees ate their cheese cubes.

I'm honestly surprised. This is the OT. Don't all of the people on here hire au pairs to take care of the kids so the stay at home moms can shop and work out all day?

The money is one thing, the waiting lists (at least in BTR) are a completely different ball game.
We literally had to put our child on the waiting list before birth. And you still may not get into your preferred daycare.
Luckily we are in a somewhat good one now that is near both of our offices. However, it wasn't our first, second or even third choice. (and it's $750 a month) Be sure you are maxing out your HSA for daycare expenses.

Over 800 for my daughter. My wife is pregnant and when the baby comes it will be another 950 for him.

I bet you pay half of the poor souls in NYC pay. Not to mention you pay probably nothing in property/state/city taxes.
I know people that cleared $30k+ just in daycare, plus another $10k just in property.
If I were you I'd be happy it's not higher.

we looked into this option. However many of them wanted us to hire them via W2 from not 1099. Did not want to have to play unemployment and such

It's a business bro, they are leveraging the basic principles of economics just like a business should. Some win, some lose.
We don't all pay the same though.
I may go in every two weeks and drop $400, while some other parent goes in and spends $200 every two weeks, at the same school, in the same class as my kid.

Well sure, if you married a barista

$1000/mt is about what you will pay for something decent uptown. Does not include diapers and formula.

Absolutely.

reading some of the prices of day care centers, I guess I feel better about what we pay per month for my son. We pay 125 per week here in Middle GA. Granted we were able to set up a health and child care spending account through my wife's employer so it does take a bit of the sting out of it.

how much does your wife bring in a month? if its less than 2500 should should prob think about staying home.

my buddy has a 5 year old and twin 3 year olds. He hired an aupare (spelling?) from Vietnam. She has her own room and is on call 24/7.
told me it's 500/mo cheaper than finding a daycare who only watches them during the work week.

A good part of the high cost is due to government regulation and insurance cost. I looked into providing daycare for my employees. I figured the cost of one minimum wage employee would offset the missed work etc. The increased insurance cost, regulatory compliance etc. was a deal breaker.
