I'm a technology moron and prefer to stay that way. Yes I still have a flip phone.
Someone explain how Netflix, HBOGo, Roku etc... even work? Do you still watch shows at the times they come on or is it basically like OnDemand Cable but cheaper and you just watch them whenever you want after they've aired?
How do you use a password to access TV like HBOGo? Do you do it on the computer and then have like a Chromecast or something that lets you watch it on the TV?

I get value of the internet, not out of cable. I am fine with paying more for internet, assuming I get great speeds and good service.
The cable companies are so fricked, and they know it. They are trying to suck us dry while they can.

I had been a DirectTV customer for 8 years and paying $120/month for a mid package with HBO.
New customers were paying half that, but I get nothing for being a loyal customer? That's bullshite and no way to treat loyal customers.
I guess I could keep the cost down by switching companies back and forth every 2 years.

This was part of the reason I dropped them, and the cost was not justified. I now have internet, Netflix Streaming, Netflix DVD monthly, and at times I purchase stuff off of Amazon (streaming). I pay about $54 for internet, and maybe $30 total a month for Netflix (streaming and DVDs).

Completely agree.
I have to call Cox annually to get my cable/internet dropped to ~$120/month. Mid-tier internet, no premiums, and 1 DVR. $10/month on Netflix.

congrats, mine is $65 and i have more content than you and it's not even a debate. want to keep going? this should be fun pawpaw.
you:
- change your depends & put on clothes
- get in car, drive a few miles. (gas expense)
- walk through video store for 10-15 minutes (guessing what's worth watching)
- wait in line next to the kid crying because he isn't getting his Goobers
- pay $2-3 (minimum)
- get in car, drive a few miles (gas expense)
- pop DVD (or in your case VHS) into player
- at some point, drive back to video store to return movie (gas expense) or pay $5 a day late fee.

- pick out title based on reviews
- press play.

uh, really?
Video stores were all over, near my grocery store, church, office, gym, restaurants. I never went out of the way
and, uh, how long does it take to browse a "just released" title? You walk in, grab it, and go to the counter. Browsing for something to watch takes no more then, than it does navigating through an app now
But enjoy streaming those $5.99 movies instead of renting them for $2.99

Whether its the studios, the cable providers, the internet providers, the sports leagues, etc. In the end they will get the money they demand, or they simply won't put out the product anymore. You think you're being cute and trendy with your cable theft, you're not. Streamers will be identified and throttled down or charged more. One way or another the cable/ISP's are going to get their money for the billions of dollars they've sunk into the data delivery infrastructure.
