You millennials sure taught Blockbuster a lesson!!!

I never knew paying for convenience was a "millennial" thing

and if we want to rent movies, we can rent them from Redbox for cheaper than Blockbuster

and Redboxes are literally everywhere, moreso than Blockbuster

so...

There are communities that chip in to pay for something like NHL Gametime. Then they create an app where you can literally watch any NHL game for free in perfect HD. In 10 years, this'll be the norm

No it won't. You think the NHL, or any other major sports league is going to allow millions of people to watch their content for free? Not a chance. They'll scrap those packages or track the crap out of user IDs.

a few large corporations/conglomerates. thousands upon thousands of people who are out trying to figure out a way to "beat the system". tell me, who wins?

kick the ant pile in your backyard. it may be a few days or a week, but there will be another. how's the saying go, "where there is the will, there....."

the ISP's only hope is that they can leach as much money as they possibly can for as long as they can out of those still willing to pay the premiums. aka baby boomers and older.

I'm kind of in that grey area generation wise where I hate cable, but don't thrive on setting up all this shite in 90 different ways just to stick it to the man and save a few dollars a month. If we are talking $100 per month, I guess I better start listening. But, I see your point. These cable cos and ISPs have more lobbying clout than Blockbuster. I'm not sure they can clamp down on the sharing like Napster, but it seems like this will just be your future:

Well, what's your cable bill a month? Now, deduct that completely. Add the subscriptions you might want like Netflix, Hulu, HBO...see how you come out monthly that way. If you know someone who has these subs and doesn't mine sharing, that's even better.

The only upfront one time costs would be getting a device to stream on (Apple TV--$100; FireTV stick--$40; etc.) and an indoor HD antenna.

I'm saving $125/month. My bill was $140.

This is incorrect. Do you really think Blockbuster, if still open today, would only rent out DVDs for $3? Keep in mind they have to make a profit, and there's also inflation/expenses to consider. And I'm not sure what online service you use, but I don't pay $6 to rent a movie online.

What's amazing about this is that college football fans on here are bitching about cable costs (and probably the plethora of commercials during live sporting events),

yet turn around and brag brag brag about how much money their conference or team is being paid by television.

They can't link the two. God bless 'em.

Do you work for cox?

For cable, you now need all these rip off $10-$20/month boxes to even see it. No thanks. I'll be using my Roku only now.

FYI: You get add ESPN with Sling.

You pay for expensive TV shows by watching commercials. You are double paying for it to keep cable for local channels. Sucka

9 times out of 10, when I decide to watch a movie, I am 4+ beers in and it's 10PM or later. I'll pay $5.99 over and over and over before I drink and drive.

I'm sure you pay for convenience in other ways. Get over yourself.

how does a content creator get its creations into homes without the middlemen that created the pipelines?
