As a public school educator, Thank you for the $400 raise per year.

Considering that your salary comes from the district which employs you, perhaps your dissatisfaction is misdirected. JBE just gave you a supplement of $400.00 per year. If you don't want it, don't accept it.

So many ppl think teachers get so much time off, but don’t realize most stay late and go on weekends and during the summer. Teachers have to teach your bad arse kids all fricking day and get paid about the same as a min wage employee.

Plus Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break, MLK day, presidents day, etc, etc

Plus anytime the wind is blowing too hard, or it's raining too much, or it might possibly sleet somewhere close by.

And you thought magically after you graduated college and made the CHOICE of becoming a public school teacher that pay would dramatically increase?

Just enjoy the paid time off, unstainable retirement system, and cheap health insurance.

None of the dozen teachers I know do this. In fact, a handful of them will tell you how good a deal it is to get the time off they get for what they get paid.

Oh no, you have to stay until 4:30 and deal with difficult people? I'm sorry, I should've been more considerate. No one should have to deal with such things at work.

Good troll, but even if they worked 2100 hours a year... And they don't, they would be making over 3x minimum wage as a beginning with no bonuses.

I worked 3100 hours last year. And I didn't get the summer off.

1. Nobody accepted that job but you!
2. You don't think people with non government jobs have to do the same thing?

ONLY teachers on salary work late and work over time without pay!!!!!

Imagine working 9 months out of the year and getting paid roughly 40 to 60 grand + great benefits + working 8-3:30 with an hour long lunch and multiple breaks during the day.

You can even make them watch a movie when you don't want to teach

It would be except for continuing education classes, lesson plans for the upcoming school year, summer technology and in service classes, and getting a summer job because 40k a year before taxes isn’t really much. Not to mention school isn’t out 3 months, less than 2.5.

Add in 2-4 hours a night and weekends for grading assignments and doing lesson plans and it’s easily 10-12 hour days.
