If Mercedes,Audi,BMW,Ford,Chevrolet really truly wanted to launch into the electric space they are more than capable of making a splash, they just dont care about a niche market like electric cars
Awe, you poor thing.

Ever heard of a Mercedes B Class Electric Drive?

So much so that they, Mercedes, makes an electric car? Surely, you can see how your statement isn't logical at all, right?

Those companies are more than capable of generating the cash to dive into that market
By evidence that, ya know, they did dive into that market.

You guys are nuts, electric cars are not mainstream nor will they be in any way.
The world is changing, time to get with the times. Your idea that cars will stay as the status quo 10, 20+ years from now is super naive thinking IMO. Electric cars are happening, their market share will only increase and increase over time as the technology in these cars continue to improve, that much seems obvious.

Whats the global population? A shade over 7 Billion people and what percentage of those people live on under $5/day? In the scope of the whole world we are the 1% even those of you who make $40-50k. The reality is, globally yes 150k people or whatever ordered this car yesterday but LOL at any of you guys who think this car or this manufacturer is ever going to be mainstream within 30+ years. Even in the US the bulk of the cars you see on the road are worth well under $15k and this $35k base, $75k fully loaded car is not about to change a thing.
Huh? Are you saying because people generally don't make much money, there's not a market for expensive cars? I don't follow.

I notice he has continued to respond in this thread without replying to factual information that blew his discussions about the actual cost of the car, the actual cost of ownership, the existence of state tax credits and rebates in excess of the federal ones he claimed may not be there by the time they sold, etc.

He pounces on outlier comments and rails on them by acting as if everyone is saying that. But when people reply with relevant information and responses with context that easily refute his wild assertions, he's ignoring those folks.

It's telling,

I am not sure of how much of this country you traveled, but that would mean that some extremely BFE towns would have Tesla service stations?

I mean, the Midwest would be hell for these cars IMO. I drive around 50-60K miles a year for work.

If I lived and worked in Dallas or something, this would be a sweet ride!

I can see the tesla making sense if you live in an urban area where you aren't driving long distances and you don't own any toys on trailers. How long does it take to charge the battery? No one is going to want a 5 hr piss break on a road trip so the car can charge.
