Terrorism - what can we do?

What can we realistically do to stop these terror-inspired attacks? We can monitor organized groups but it's very difficult to monitor those who are inspired by those groups.

Do we declare war again? If so, against who - ISIS? That could be even broader than the war against al-Qaeda was.

The war against al-Qaeda was successful, looking back on it. When was the last time they were relevant? Having said that, there's a very legitimate and convincing argument to be made that pulling out of Iraq helped to create a transformation of al-Qaeda into ISIS.

So what can we really do? Do we eventually go to all-out war again and if we do, where the hell would it be? Or are we actually at war now, with the front lines being actually within our borders?

So far there really isn't much to worry about. Your odds of being killed by a terrorist are roughly on par with being struck by lightning. Sure, it is hugely sensational when it does happen but you are vastly more likely to be killed by something boring, like a car accident.

ETA: I actually looked this up once upon a time, but literally there have been several times more who won the Powerball top prize than have been killed by a terrorist on US soil.

Yep. I was almost taken by blood loss following a surgery to remove a blood clots from a hemorrhoid following a flight.

I'm way more worried about that a-hole than these assholes. Tmi

I'm not saying I'm afraid. Read the post again. I'm trying to discuss what can be done to combat today's form of terrorism.

Yes, you take the fight to Isis and go after them the same way we did AQ. Whether that is in Syria, Iraq, or on the web you make it known that you are going to destroy them- then destroy them. What we are seeing here is the result of not responding at all and ignoring the situation completely.

I also think that the PC, apologizing, and tolerance for people who share IS beliefs in this country has to end. We simply can't wait till after a terrorist acts to do something.

There have only been 166 people that have won the powerball jackpot. That is 2,830 less than 9/11 alone.

Violence breeds violence. Sometimes it's necessary and unavoidable, but the consequences are always heavy. In this case, I think everyone knew Hussein was a shitbag but nobody could predict how much he was keeping radicals like ISIS at bay.

I don't have an answer to 'what to do' though.

Involve and ask for help from the Muslim community to begin with.

These incidents don't happen in a vacuum, there are signs, there is talk, there is radicalization that happens prior.

We need people that see this to speak up though, they need to be the eyes and ears, and report it whenever it seems there may be an issue, or there is the ongoing talk of these attacks.

Understandably we can't label a whole group by the actions of a few, but these other members need to be engaged and speak up to help keep all of our country safe.

Disregarding this and ignoring, not stating we have a problem with this segment of the Muslim population is not the answer though

If one is or at one time was on a watch list and they have Islamic leanings then they should remain on the watch list and actually be watched.

We need to stop letting in these "refugees". They really don't want to assimilate into our culture, see Europe, so they should seek refuge in Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia.

First thing is limiting the influx of people from sympathizing countries.
Second (the part I like the least because I love freedom) is monitor mosque and the imams. All these homegrown jihadist seem to get super involved at the local mosque before they twist off.
Third is we have to send a strong message by doing something like turning Racca Syria into fricking rubble.

This is the hardest part to figure out because when you boil it all down this religion just does not fit into a modern western society.

So spend trillions of dollars and lose even more Americans.

What you're talking about is an endless war that, imo, that cannot be won against an idealogy.

We're seeing the results of a half century of conflict in the middle East. I'm not sure what the solution is either, but I don't think continued occupation is the way to go.

Yep. Some extremely intelligent people from around the world haven't been able to find a solution either from a military, economic, or social standpoint.

We can start by not arming and training the next generation of terrorist groups, I mean "Rebels", to combat the existing generation of terrorist groups like we have done for the past few decades. It only continues the cycle.

The Bacon and Bikini test.

Have every American sit in front of sexy women in bikinis and eat a plate of bacon.

If you won't do either one, then GTFO.

We need bridges not walls, love not hate, and no more guns. And we need to understand why these people hate us. We need more hashtags to spread the message
