Planning on potentially retiring to Prairieville. What can you tell me about it? School system, cost of real estate/living, level of crime, entertainment, etc.

Unless you have young kids and no choice but to live in the Baton Rouge area, I would look elsewhere.

It used to be a good place to take in a some ballet and get an Asian massage. It’s changed.

No way this can be your #1 option.

Also, if you are retiring why is the school system a factor.

Great to live, but you have to drive to Baton Rouge for many things. Traffic is horrible and it takes you 3 times as long at certain times of the day. They have a good parish government but building on every vacant piece of land has diminished their infrastructure. Crime happens because it's basically just part of Baton Rouge. Schools are great but overcrowding and section 8 apartments are starting to take their toll.

80%+ work in BR and cause all the traffic but can own a cheap house with lots of flood prone land and send their kids to good public schools.

It's a nice area for now but it's just a matter of time before BR spreads into it. I really thought there was a chance with St. George but even if that were to happen I think it's too late to turn back now.

Crime isn’t a huge problem as it is in BR. PVille has more of a country feel to it.

Why are you worried about the school system if you are going there to retire?

It was white flight central for those fleeing Baton Rouge, making it grow way too fast. Cultcha will always follow within a couple of decades. You'll be 80 years old just living in what has become another part of shithole Baton Rouge.

It's actually a generalization that can be said about Port Allen/Brusley/Iberville. Everyone wants that BR lifestyle but don't want to live in it.

This. That is what I am looking for. This city got crazy expensive and over crowded. And I'm not too concerned about BR traffic.
