Definitely.

Its a lot more granola, which I love. Chattanooga is a great city. Public schools aren't close to Nashvilles, but you don't have kids I would recommend it highly.

Wife and I routinely go stay a weekend down there and walk around the city.

as in? the only thing i can think of is you are closer to white water rafting.

nashville has waterfalls, canoing, cycling, lakes & caves within an hour's drive.

All mediocre versions of what Chattanooga has much closer. You have to take credit for other areas attractions to even get close to what Chattanooga has within biking distance of downtown.

This is definitely the biggest negative for me right there. I just had a kid. It's pretty much like BR, you have to go private. Ooltewah and a few magnet schools are the only maybe public option.

Chattanooga is better suited for outdoors activities CAD.

They have closer and better mountain bike trails, white water, camping, etc.

ETA:

Nashville, relative to other major cities, is excellent in this regard. Chattanooga isn't a major city though. Its also closer to mountains. You just don't have to go as far for some elite white water/camping/trails.

So much that if you moved here, you would honestly feel like it is non-existent. As a person that grew up in Br and then lived in Nola, I honestly feel like there is no crime here at times

I'd agree with this. I'm a Nola defender, but after moving back to Nashville, I feel like crime has much less of an impact on my life in Nashville when compared to New Orleans. In New Orleans, our neighborhood would have armed robberies pretty regularly. In Nashville, I live a few blocks from public housing and never feel unsafe. That doesn't mean I don't look over my shoulder, but I think that should be SOP for anyone in an urban environment.

So does Chattanooga and you don't have to drive anywhere?

It's substantially hillier/mountainous and it has a ton more of running/hiking trails. From the Rock/Creek Stump Jump 50 kilometer race to some of the best rock climbing in the nation...Chattanooga is an outdoors paradise.

Yep.

Not to take anything away from Nashville here, because it is better in this regard than a vast majority of major cities. Chattanooga is elite in this category though.

Natchez Trace is lame, really really lame version of what we have within stones throw. You are taking credit for other areas attractions. Hell there is other cities between you and Mammoth, that's like Chattanooga taking credit for the GSMNP...

No kidding. My weekends consist of runningin Edwin/Percy Warner, or walking around Radnor and taking the kayak down the Harpeth topped off w/ visits to the local breweries or beer bars.

Chattanooga is just another level, but the cities are so different. Chattanooga is more comparable to Asheville than Nashville. You just aren't going to the big city attractions as Nashville.

ok fine. things like 'land between the lakes' and stuff are not technically in nashville..and we don't have mountains.

3 state/3 mtn is one of my favorite centuries (if its not raining)

A pretty heavy nod in Chattanooga's direction on the outdoor activities thing. Nashville is okay, but it's no Chattanooga. If you're in Chattanooga, a 30 minute drive and 4 hour hike gets you a good bit out of civilization.

Nashville is the best city in the South, besides Nola I guess.

kayak down the Harpeth

I've been looking to pick up a kayak. For now, I like to rent a canoe or kayak up at the Narrows of the Harpeth area a few times each summer. I haven't been down the Caney yet though.

I'll be on the Harpeth during the 4th weekend if anyone wants to grab a beer on the river.

You really should. Depending on what you want to do, you can get a solid inexpensive one. The rentals at the Narrows are probably around $200.

We took them out to Percy Priest for the first time two weekends ago and hung out on one of the islands out there. For the Harpeth, here's a great little shoot out by Ensworth worth checking out.

Nashville is a great southern city, but my favorite city in the South is Atlanta.
