Tell me about living in Nashville

For the sake of discussion, let's assume Mr. and Mrs. Sheep are 30 something professionals with real jobs and a child. One of the Sheeps may have a job opportunity in Nashville. The other could (probably) continue working with their job remotely - or has a skillset/resume that would allow for job placement pretty easily.
What is living in Nashville like?
Traffic? Schools? Housing? Family things to do? Cost of living?
Coming from the Greater New Orleans area - what would we hate? What would we love?

Nashville lost its aura and mid-sized city appeal years ago. It's way too commercialized now.

Meh, I may be ignorant but in my opinion, Nashville is an awesome place to go to college, or be a young professional, but not live when you're in your 30s with a kid.
However, I will say that Franklin, just south of Nashville, seems like it would be an awesome place to raise a family.

When I say "Nashville", this is what I mean. Kind of like living "in Memphis" probably means living in Germantown.

Its fantastic.
Bad because we're growing so fast. Live in the city and you can avoid most of it.
Fantastic. Even the public ones.
Expensive but plentiful.
Unlimited. The city has great restaurants, incredible music, there are mountains and lakes nearby, etc.
Was average, but is going up due to major influx of new people.
No crime you would love. No great and affordable seafood you would hate.

I am curious how many actual qualified answers you will get from here among the people that have just visited as opposed to the number of people that have actually lived there and know what in the frick they're talking about....with regards to the actual question you asked.
Admittedly, we have visited and found it to be a wonderful city with plenty to do, however my perspective simply comes from being a tourist and not a resident

Franklin is a neat town. Don't live there and say you live in Nashville. It's insulting to Franklin.

You hate Nashville huh?
Tourists go downtown to Broadway. Nashville's cool neighborhoods are East Nashville, Germantown, Sylvan Park, 12 South, etc.
Franklin is great to raise a family. Very neat place with outstanding schools.

Spoken from a guy living in a dying Memphis.
Nashville is the best city in the state and one of the best cities in the south IMO behind Atlanta.
Very safe for a city it's size. Growing Metro that should hit 2 million in the next decade or so, great job market, great suburbs and housing, shopping, some of the best night life/entertainment in the Southeast. The list goes on. You'll need to focus on a specific area of the city before people can give you more insight

Depends, but not ATL bad. That is next level.
If you live 30 miles South or East of Nashville and commute in everyday, it could be brutal. 24 to Chattanooga is a bottle neck and 65 South to Brentwood/Franklin isn't much better. However there are lots of jobs in those cities that wouldn't require a commute.

I'd put Chattanooga over Nashville. Smaller, and prettier scenery.

Anyone in Williamson County east of 65 needing access to the city is a fool. I mainly work 37069 and property values here are going insane due to people realizing the snowball effect coming to the East side of Will Co. Least expensive new construction home zoned for Grassland Elementary is 849k
