My general question is how do mailmen across the country put their lives in danger every day by interacting with these dogs and manage to not carry firearms?

Or just make pit bulls illegal. Like many cities have done.

I have no problem with pits being made illegal but these "cop shoots dog" incidents are hardly all pit related. A quick trip to Youtube will show all manner of breeds being killed. Do you not believe police officers are capable of mastering the same training the mailman gets?

Without being controversial with humans, simply Google "cops shoot dog" and see the amount of hits. Not saying all are bad but it is a lot of write ups. A majority state the dogs are "pit bulls" but that is about as meaningful as labeling a gun an "assault rifle".

This is such a stupid response

The next time you see a dog fight, step in and try to break it up.

Let me know how it goes.

P.S. You sound as if you think a cop has to be injured first before he can protect himself.

I'll be the first one to admit that cops don't receive proper training with handling animal calls. But a lot big breeds serve no purpose besides a public nuisance. Examples pit bulls,Rottweilers, mastiffs ect. Majority of shootings with dogs seem to be the same breeds(boxers, pit bulls)

As a trained proffesional you should have more situational awareness than to start shooting at an the dog as soon as it rounds the corner, he's got mace, pepper spray, a night stick, a taser. Any of those he could have used to slow the dog down.

Or if the dog was truly a threat to the officers life and the gun was necessary, in sorry but he should be able to shoot the animal without putting people in the area at risk, at a minimum the cop needs better training on how to use his weapon. Seems like he really needed better training on how to handle situations and making quick decisions

You know how I know you have no fricking idea what you're talking about ? I do this on a daily basis, the shite you posted is total nonsense. You sound like the typical 'Monday morning' QB's who all could have done it better than Brady or Brees.

And how many people have you accidentally shot? I'm guessing none because you're probably a competent police officer.

I'm a teacher and I'm good at it, doesn't mean I'm going to stick up for all the teachers out there who are horrible at their job and do stupid things all the time.

so take a chill pill buddy, think about this, you're defending a guy who was trying to shoot a dog and accidentally shot and killed a person, how is that okay?

I think it's also common sense to not fire a gun if you're uncertain of your target. There were probably several lapses of judgment here.

So you have experience shooting a moving target? One that is charging you? Better yet what is your experience wit the penetration of a 9mm or 40 S&W?

What if it is latched onto your gun hand?

You really want to risk your health and lively hood for an attacking dog?

Serious question, can you use a tazer on a charging dog?

Very slim possibility it works.

Tazer leads separate when fired. Both leads have to make contact and stick to complete circuit. If one lead misses nothing happens.

By calling animal control for any that is threatening to them.

This quote right here is precisely why a large segment of our population will always dislike or distrust police. Instead of evoking the natural human reaction of sympathy with the deceased, you instead choose to berate another poster and knee-jerk defend the person who shot him, for no other reason than the man who did it wears a badge.

Meter readers, FedEx, UPs, pizza delivery people, mailmen, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and a multitude of others go door to door daily encountering all manner of unrestrained dogs, if they handled the situation in the same manner as law enforcement there would likely be not a single 4 legged creature left alive.

And they can refuse service due to large dogs.

They handle the situation by steering clear of them.

I have a large Cane Corso that is fenced in.

Meter Reader refused to read meter...company had to install a wireless one.

FedEX and UPS Drivers honk the horn and we have to come out to them.

Jehovah Witnesses/Mormons....... ......none
