On the night before I took the necessary exam for my new job in insurance, I had an anxiety attack. It was very sudden. My heart began to pound, my left arm became numb and began to tingle. I was frantic. I couldn't imagine what was happening, but I knew that whatever was going on was probably serious. I ran to the next house over and asked them if they'd call 911 for an ambulance. When EMTs arrived, they told me, accurately, that I'd had an anxiety attack. I was depressed thereafter, not because of the anxiety attack. Mainly just becuase I didn't feel any real confidence anymore. Nothing had really gone as planned up to this point, and it was easy to want to just quit. I wanted to kill myself. I thought about it seriously. I went so far as to throw away all of my knives and sharp things to make sure that I couldn't. I was doing my job, and doing it well; I was our only salesman and we were consistently in the top ten agencies in our region. I was a rockstar in my field and could have cared only slightly less. I did well for a few months, got bored, quit trying, and promptly found myself fired. I took another job, did well for a bit (the thing about depression is that you get easily motivated by things and, equally easily, find them pointless) and left again, this time for my own agency. It's all a bit of a blur, but at some point during this process, I began to see a psychiatrist.
They are fricking terrifying. I'm so happy I finally can somewhat control these things. Before I got on Lexipro, I would get one of these about every two months like clockwork. It's been a year, and I've only had this happen a couple of times since.
I'm glad to see all the support here. Society tends to shun those with mental disorders, like they did something to deserve it. There aren't many people on this earth that deserve to suffer depression/anxiety or any other mental disorder.

Well said.

I enjoy talking about cars. I don't know a lot but it's fun to think I do.
Great story! Very well written.

Nice read. I think everyone deals with depression to some degree. Obviously some more than others. I never considered suicide but I did hit my low at one point. Just have to stick it out. Now I'm happier than I ever could have imagined. Change your priorities. Focus on bettering yourself and you can easily beat it.
It's funny that while youre going through whatever it is bothering you, people think it's only happening to them. This is very common in our culture.

Yes, there is improvement and you start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and you mess it all up again. Depression is tiresome. Never received help or taken medicine but sometimes want to.

Very rarely do we truly get to venture into the souls of people that post on here. The anonymity of a message board puts up a veil about who people truly are on here or how they feel.
For you to take down that veil and show your inner-workings like that was not only ballsy, it was refreshing. I think people will take a lot from that post, and realize they truly aren't alone. Anxiety is a bitch, but it's good to know that people who suffer with, are not alone.

Very pleasant and accurate analysis.
I sometimes wonder if a "troll-free" OT would be great or suck really bad.
