I know we just discussed suits the other day, however I need some advice from you barons of style. I don't currently own a proper suit, will need one in mid-november.
Should I buy off rack and have it tailored, or custom order (blacklapel)?

Who is best tailor for alterations in BR? I usually use golden needle in drusilla

You sound like you don't wear suits a lot... just get one off the rack and have it 'ALTERED'.. Tailoring is for custom suits.

(blacklapel)?

All day. With your timeline, if somehow it doesn't fit perfectly, you can get them to cover the cost of alterations, or send it back and still get it back in time.

Shop Dillards HSM selection and see if they have deals on golden trumpeter suits. They usually do.

It's a great suit for 300-400 bucks.

Depends on your size and drop. I can't get off rack because the drop from chest to pant is over 10". If that is you then you will have to buy separates. Some of the ones at Macy's ain't bad. Jos A Banks doesn't have separates.

What size are you? Waist size? Height? Weight? What kind of fit do you want?

I would go with one of the online shops:

Black Lapel

Dragon Inside Suits

Thick as Thieves (Truly horrible website, but have heard good things about the suits, though the shoulders can be an issue for some)

Nope, I'm in college and have never needed more than a blazer and some nice slacks. most formal stuff I have been to, I have had to wear Dress blue Uniforms.

I am going to grab one of my Fashionable lady friends and go check out macy's and dillard's, If I don't see something I fall in love with, I'll probably order online.

Do you pray for threads about suits so you can post this?

Why you dummies don't buy from an Ebay seller in the fashion district and have it tailored is beyond me.

I know a lot of people who buy lightly used designer suits on Ebay and spend money on tailoring. People who generally can afford to buy nice suits anyway.

I did it once and scored an excellent Hickey which is one of my favorite suits now. It just requires some patience and snooping that I'm not willing to do regularly.

I can't find off the rack suits that fit as everything (even the "tailored fit" suits) is for fat people.

Get a bespoke suit, it'll look sooooo much better.

Check out Suit Supply here in Houston. It's worth the drive.

Buy a decent, mid-priced suit from Dillard's or Macy's .

Take it to a good local tailor to have it altered. Bring the shoes with you that you are going to wear with the suit. Allow about 2 weeks as they are generally backed up.
