I once had a cashier's check for over $3K disappear on me while I was taking a nap. I had it sitting on my bedside table when I took a siesta... Woke up when the person I was doing business with rang the doorbell... Went back to my room to grab it and it was GONE. Started tearing up my room. I'm talking tossing the bed, moving the nightstand, dumping the drawers...Couldn't find it. Checked the perimeter security footage vid from the hour I'd been sleeping...Nobody else had come or gone. I apologized to the guy and he said if it turned up before he found another buyer to call him and he headed out. I was ready to cry so I went back to my room, picked up one of the pillows I'd thrown and buried my face in it...and felt a "crinkle". Apparently my oscillating fan had blown it into my pillowcase while I was snoozing.

TLDR: I lost a hefty (for me at the time) cashiers check in a pillow.

Coincidentally - I have the weirdest "first thought" reaction whenever I overhear another person talking about misplacing a bill/mail thanks to the roommate I had at that same place.

He was ransacking the house looking for a bill of some sort. I looked everywhere with him and couldn't find it. 2 days later I found it...in the fridge. He had gone to the mailbox while out front paying the pizza guy and put it between the boxes.

Not really stupid, but definitely mysterious. One day I noticed my cats collar was missing. It was an inside cat that never went outside ever in her entire freaking life. I looked everywhere for it but couldn't find it. I figured it had to turn up somewhere, hell I lived alone in a 1100 square foot townhome. It never turned up. I eventually moved out of that place and STILL never found it anywhere. It fricking vanished.

When my older kids-- twins-- were about 3 month old, the wife had to go out of country for work for a week. Mind, we lived abroad, so really no family support system to fall back on at the time. By the end of that week, I was so sleep deprived, I put the remote control in the egg panel in our fridge.

Mind, I found it the next morning without much problem, but utterly by accident.

A lot of cat collars are designed with a "breaking point" so that the cat doesn't get accidentally choked to death if it gets hung up on something. If you have any couches/chairs where a spring underneath may be exposed somehow - Check there.

Spent hours looking for car/house keys one morning. Finally found them in a Kleenex box. Must have put keys on top of the box and they fell in. Found them when I picked up the box and slammed it down on kitchen counter, mad because I couldn't find the keys and was running late.

I was on a bunch of xanax in 2015, hid the whole dried cola of a northern lights plant in my house. I've never found it.

Lost my virginity in a church baptismal, during church services, with the preacher's daughter.
