I'm sure when parents using just spanking as the first option without actually teaching their kids right from wrong that it probably does have an effect.

In the world. I'd bet that number is 25% or lower in the US

As many as 80 percent of parents around the world spank their children

If 80% of parents spank their kids, then theoretically 80% of the population are mentally ill.

I've seen kids who were not spanked. Those kids have severe mental illnesses AND get in trouble with the law often.

These people need to go back to the drawing board and re-do their study.

there is no clear evidence of positive effects from spanking

I have witnessed positive effects of spanking, and I have witnessed negative effects of NOT SPANKING. The people evaluating these studies and deriving these false conclusions have a mental illness.

They likely oversampled Muslims, Africans and poor inner city kids from Western countries and extrapolated the results across the entire world population.

Study results are usually skewed to reinforce preconceived notions. The chick wrote the report probably had an abusive parent.

Spanking teaches kids that there are consequences for your bad actions.

I'm a man, men are naturally aggressive.

Anti-social behavior, I'd much rather not be around a shitload of people.

So does every other form of discipline? Personally I think it's lazy and mostly ineffective and this is coming from someone who got the belt at home and the paddle at school.

You want to talk about effective? Hold me out of a sports game and make me go explain to the whole team and coaches why I let them down and couldn't participate.

Make them go pick up trash on a busy road where their friends are sure to see them.

Take away phone/computer/ video games or then later as a teenager car keys got taken.

I have 5 kids, the 2 oldest are step daughters. They got more whippings because I was not in their life at an early age. They didn't look at me as their dad. Now they are great young adults who understand why I was hard on them. They will admit that if it wasn't for my discipline they wouldn't be who they are today.

My 3 other kids all learned early right from wrong. I rarely have to whip them. They are yes sir, no sir kids.

If kids learn from an early age they will get their butt whipped then they are more likely to stay out of trouble.

Spankings are a lazy form of discipline. Done by parents that don't want to take the time to educate themselves on more effective ways to discipline.
