Yeah, I've always struggled with bench press. I don't really know why. I have a slightly oddly shaped right pec from surgery when I was a baby. Also may just be I have a form problem.

If you're pushing 225 I'd recommend building your own plan. Strong lifts is good but it's geared more towards starting out lifting
He could have success with it. I didn't start plateauing until my 5x5 sets were at 255. He can then switch to something like Mad Cow after a deload or two.

I do 3-4 sets of RPT on my main lifts
No set number of reps. Basically for set 1 i try to do as many reps as possible for the weight i pick. For sets after that i drop 10% of the weight and do 1 more rep than the last set.
For the 1st set you want to go heavy. The ideal rep range is 5-6. Anything more than 6 you are going too light, anything less than 5 you are going too heavy.
For example this morning on bench i did:
6x225
7x205
8x185
9x165

I like doing the opposite:
205x7
225x5
245x3
265x1+
Increase sets by 5 lbs each week.

Agree with the other posters. Try 5/3/1 and you're more than capable of subbing assistance work where you feel you have weak points.

Wendler 5.3.1 is your answer.

As advanced as you already are I think you'll be failing of 5x5 pretty fast. If I were you I would go with Rippetoe's Starring Strength 3X5.

No, you're bench is fine, and right in line with your other lifts.
A male that can deadlift 500lbs should be able to squat 400 and bench 315.
Based on your numbers, everything is proportional.

"If you’ve done the Squat, Bench and Deadlift before, with good technique, you can start with 50% of your five rep max."
I've been doing StrongLifts for the last 3-4 months. I've loved it. Meets my schedule... married, employed, father. But I've recently torn a ligament in my hip, and am having to modify the squat/deadlift until I have surgery.

And I'd suggest getting the app. It's really helpful in keeping up with your progress and keeping you on track.

The SL app is great for anyone doing that. If you need a broader app (not doing SL) then try JEFIT.

Download the Big Lifts 2 app. It has 5/3/1, 5x5, etc. on it.
