There is nothing available in town right now outside of a few rooms at the airport hotels. Displaced flood people have everything booked. Be glad you got a room at all and aren't staying in Port Allen and fighting bridge traffic every day.

I work on Harding every day. I'll even walk places. I'm white. Might get accosted by a bum or two but that's about it. Area does suck though.

A wrong turn here or there will have you in some pretty sketchy areas of town.
The same could be said for staying on LSU campus.

Truth. Just came back from a week in BR. Because there were so many of us there and they wanted to keep everyone together, the closest arrangements they could find were in LaPlace. Nice hotels, long arse boring commute.

An update for OP, just stopped at a gas station on the corner of Harding/Plank to grab some beer on the way home. Harrassed on the way in by a vagabond, and not a particularly friendly one might I add. He hovered directly in front of my car until I came back out and continued harrassing me for money.
This was on what you would probably consider the good side of Harding and Plank.
If you do end up staying there, it's worth it to just drive to the southern parts of town for shopping and whatnot.

Weird. I never see him there. Oh well, I usually only stay about ten minutes.

As long as you stay around that area you should be ok.
They have a few restaurants in the area by the hotel.
If you want to go to a grocery store you need to drive outside the area to find a safe place to shop.
You can take Harding East and cross plank road at it is a few miles to the town of central.
They have a Winn Dixie at the corner of joor and hooper ( when you cross plank road the road becomes hopper road).

Grew up in NBR offa Plank. There is NO WAY, I would stay near the airport. It is a wasteland out that way.

Literally stuck between our two most violent zip codes. Rival gangs on either side of it. Dont go out after dark.
