LINK? One of them has already said he would not rule out running for mayor of SG.

And your point? If he is elected by St. George residents, why would I care?

And wouldn't a mayor campaign race be a great time to ask him about his past business deals with the state?

Yes, but that's not Russian's concern. He's just using the appearance of impropriety as a tool to attack the supporters rather than debate the true issues.

He can't argue against the fact that the incorporation would be beneficial for St. George...so he conflates, confuses, distracts, etc.

Follow the money.

Bodi White tried to get a for-profit charter school approved by the EBR School Board. It was denied because his group had no education/school experience. Lionel Rainey was his partner in that charter school effort.

After it was denied, Rainey becomes the lead person to incorporate SG in order to get a new school district in spite of the fact he doesn't live in the SG area. Almost simultaneously, Rainey gets a no bid state contract for services that Rainey has no experience in doing. Not only that, but a state agency already does the same work that the contract calls for.

The no-bid part was under the radar because the contract was divided into three years with two of the years for an amount of $249,999, or just $1 under the amount, $250,000, that would have required a bid.

He had help getting the contract, for which he had no experience in meeting the terms of the contract and for which he incorporated just to get the contract.

Maybe a certain senator in the legislature who was going to be his business partner?

Nah, there's no connection. Nothing to see here. Move along.....

The SG organizers won't even debate the true issues. They keep not showing up or canceling opportunities to do just that.

Must not be anything to see. If there were, I'm sure those opposing SG would be singing this from the roof tops.

The incorporation of St, George is going to happen and there's nothing LSU Russian or "Better Together" can do to stop it.

This doesn't really say much, if anything.

The $100 million Patrick Taylor renovation/addition is being done on a no-bid contract.

If so, then what is this?

In any case, what does it have to do with Lionel Rainey getting a no-bid contract that he's not qualified to perform?

I want to ask him with the media present and cameras recording his response.

It's simple to point out how incorporation would be the worst thing for the residents of St. George.

And BTW, it's not going to happen anyway. Luke warm support now. Supporters look like the the 3 stooges, and most of all Far too much organized opposition.

Why isn't the media and opposition all over this? Seems like something they could use to pounce all over this SG movement.

Why do it if the petition effort falters anyway, which it appears to be doing?

Or, does Rainey keep canceling public appearances with the media present for the very reason that he's afraid it will be brought up?

I have not signed the petition, but live in "St George" and have been on the fence for a long time. If it goes to a vote, I will have formed an educated opinion and will do so. But lately, I think the people behind the curtain must be starting to fall apart. It sort of feels like it's losing steam. Bodi White filing that bill to create a bunch of independent districts within the EBRSS really confused me, and everyone who hasn't made a decision like me is probably also confused. The fact that they keep bailing out of these debates is troubling. And honestly, I'm not a Better Togetherian trying to throw mud. I'm a legitimate resident of the area who has wavered between supporting and not supporting the new city. I honestly find myself cheerleading it more often than criticizing it, but I'm running out of gas.

This thing doesn't feel as polished as it once did. There might be some telling signs in these debate cancellations. Whatever is going on either needs to gain some organized support behind it (and stop all the cancelling and pulling out) or the smoke needs to clear. Because this entire thing is starting to look like a bunch of bullshite. Sorry, fellow St. Georgians. Our supposed leaders are starting to look like snake oil salesmen. The weakening in the movement may be the best thing for it.
