Texas has great schools. All that culcha from Louisiana has taken its toll however.

Its too late. Texas had foresight and prepared its infrastructure many years ago to support growth. Louisiana has not done this. Basically, Texas is and has been run by smart people for many years. Louisiana is ran by the good ole boy system.

Houston justhouston has over 25 fortune 500 companies based there. I think texas is number 2 for having f500 companies based there. No state income tax not to mention probably 7 times the population as lousyana.....We will never come close to matching them..........

I love Louisiana but moved to Texas after college.

Companies are moving to North DFW by the droves due to favorable State Taxes, cost of living , schools etc etc

I all starts with making your state appealing to large corporations and this is usually motivated by money.

While that may be true, Texas best schools are not in some podunk country town, they are centered around the largest cities in the state. Having some of the top schools in the nation in Dallas is why the economic growth in those areas is enormous. Take a look at Frisco, Allen and McKinney. They are growing at and exponential rate.

Right?

I think there is a lot that goes into having good educational systems, which makes it much more complicated than just having good schools.

Actually, it's pretty fricking simple. It's called parenting. How invloved are the parents in schooling and/or the school itself?

Can I bitch about the skyrocketing housing market? Property taxes are going to kill me next year. Property value is growing way too quick. DFW metroplex could turn into Austin with a runaway real estate market.

Significant cities are pretty much a must have for the south (using that term liberally) to move up in these metrics.

Texas has 2 elite business cities, 2 other major cities.

Louisiana has one major tourism/cultural city that isn't a huge business generator. Thus, they're huddled with/slightly above states like Alabama, which lacks NOLA for culture/tourism but has a more powerful business city in Birmingham (over BR) and adds Huntsville. NOLA keeps them above Mississippi, which essentially has no significant business driver other than Memphis, and significantly below GA and NC (Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh).

It already is. I complain about it every time someone brings up a housing market thread...

Louisiana has the greatest people in the world. They are generous, kind, fun loving people. And there in lies the problem.

Since the days of Reconstruction Louisiana has been rife with corruption at all levels of government. Louisianians have come to not only accept it, but in a large part, laud it. They allow it. From Huey Long to Edwin fricking Edwards we've allowed and even celebrated the lining of pockets and brother-in-law deals that rob this state and it's people of hard earned money, and scares away businesses that want to build here.

Texans won't put up with that shite. And it shows in the economy, diversity of businesses, and overall growth.

Lifelong Texan piping in here. i agree with this. LA is my second favorite state. you have the best food, culture and friendliness of any other state in my travels.

but your schools and travel/traffic are just mindblowingly bad.

y'all need to stop letting people like JBE, Landrieu, and Ray Nagin in in office.

Most states have their best schools around major cities. Texas isn't the only one that figured this out...

LP, hmm? Although methamphetamine is a drug, that doesn't mean you have a "healthcare job".

Because Houston and Dallas don't have black people.........

A better argument might be that Houston and Dallas have done their growing post-jim crow. Houston proper went from 900,000 in 1960 to the 2 mil today.

The entire state of Louisiana has added ~1.4 mil+ in that same time period.

I grew up in Baton Rouge and I love my state. But I've lived in Houston for 17 years now and moving away really opened my eyes. (I've lived in Dallas and Duncan OK as well).

Texans won't put up with that shite. And it shows in the economy, diversity of businesses, and overall growth.

Add that corruption's influence to the LA educational system for the finishing touch. Poorly educated and content to be that way plays a huge part as well.

It's sad to me. I'd KILL to be able to live in BR, close to my family and friends. To be able to call my parents on a Friday afternoon and tell them I'm coming over to visit and I'm bringing the gumbo I made or fresh shrimp I just bought, man, I really miss that I"ve never been able to do that. It's something y'all probably take for granted. Don't. I'm 49 now, my parents are getting older. One day they'll be gone and I'll have missed that opportunity.

But the job prospects and quality of life for me and my family are just way better here in Texas. I wouldn't have nearly the income or career opportunities in LA as I have had here.

So, bottom line. LA is riddled with political corruption and the good nature and ignorance of the populace (in large part) will allow it to stay that way.

Damn! This is me! Exactly! Down to the 17 years in Houston. And I agree with every word. Family, food, and football. But that's not enough.

The thing with houston is we have them but if you go inner loop river oaks, west u,memorial you dont see them at all. You also dont have boats in driveways in these nice areas. Houston is really good about keeping the good parts good. West U has its own police, River Oaks has the RoPo and there is never any crime in those parts, literally lived in west u my whole life im 36 now and the only murder was that railroad killer killing 1 woman 20 years ago. In New Orleans, even nice areas, you're at risk all day/everyday.

Lol I went to an inner-city high school. Very urban. Black people from Louisiana are the worst. And I'm black. After Katrina, public high schools in Texas were facing a dilemma.
