In a similar boat regarding throwing a birthday party and knowing how much to expect to spend. Didn't want to hijack the other thread. Just moved to Houston 7 months ago, but all family is still in LA. My son's 1st b-day is in 2 months. We are going to have it in Louisiana since everyone is there. I don't feel like dropping a thousand bucks on a 1 year olds party, but also don't want to impose on someone to have it at their house. So what are some decent places to rent for a kid's birthday in NOLA? I think we looked at the zoo, but that's about it so far.

Rent out the Superdome. They only turn 1 once and it's something they'll never forget! Only 1 chance to get it right!

One year old.

Be honest about why you are having the party. It's a reason for you and your friends and family to get together.

Have it at a place the adults want to go. Not the Zoo in September when it is hot as balls.

unless a bunch of other kids are going to be there, I don't see the big deal about having it at someones house

a 1 year old probably isn't running around too crazy just yet

We looked into it, the Saints are playing the day of the party . But seriously, it's a screwed up time. We can only do it the weekend before his B-day which is an LSU game on Saturday and Saints on Sunday. So we have to factor that BS into it as well. I kind of just want to have it at a sports bar so people can watch the game, but I don't think they'll let babies in.

We definitely don't mind having it at someone's house, but don't want to put that on anyone. Plus our families are all from the NOLA area, but some are about a lot of people are about an hour away in all directions. If we have it at either of the grandparent's house, it's a few hours for some close family to drive. Having it in NOLA would be central for everyone.

You don't have one.

The wife wanted to have a party for ours and I put my foot down on that shite cause it was retarded. We ended up staying home and I got blackout drunk, he's not gonna remember it, why should I?

If there will be kids a little older, you could do it at BooKoo bounce out in Elmwood. Good lite kid birthday place and they can take care of caking and getting pizza, etc if you want.
If this is mostly a family get together, I don't understand why someone wouldn't step up to host.

come on

its their first kids first bday

some of y'all take the mentality that doing anything past the basic necessities for your kids is stupid a bit too seriously, when we all know you are not like that with your kids

It's a 1 year old bro. Kid isn't going to care about the zoo long enough to make it worth it.

Have that shite at maw maw house and pop some tops. Maybe rent a bounce house. For yourself

Gotta toughen them up early. They need to realize that life is unfair, cruel and drunk, just like their father.

Let me just see right through this for you and push past all the BS that you're going to reply with:

We know you-probably at the behest of your wife-are going way overboard by wanting to throw a birthday party for a 1 year old at some location that will actually cost money.

This is ridiculous and way too excessive and is obviously more for your wife's ego or your own than it is for your child. Yes we know you're going to get righteously indignant hearing that or just try to "LOL" your way out of it. But we all know what's really going on.

You need to get your head out of your @ss and call one grandmother or the other-or both of them together-and ask if they wouldn't mind figuring out which place to have a small get together with cake amongst friends and family.

It's a birthday party for a 1 year old. Get a grip on things now or get ready for a long road raising an entitled child as a really crappy, enabling parent.
