These are your premier choices - in 124 grain (although some folks dig the 147s for recoil management) - but they are difficult to find and pricey (have been for months.)

Try finding .44 Special ammo. I've given up on finding a reliable source locally for anything other than "cowboy load" target rounds. For day to day carry rounds, I order online. These are what I carry.

I can get a box of 20 of these for about $20 online.

No they don't. Owning and carrying a firearm is not a game. It's a huge responsibility and should not be done lightly. Any responsible person choosing to carry should get training on how to safely and correctly handle and use their firearm. And that training is an ongoing process. Personally, I've been handling firearms for well over 30 years, including 10 years on active duty and the guard. I still go to the range on a regular basis (last time was two weeks ago) to ensure I don't get complacent or rusty.

I think the majority of gun owners hope that they'll never have to use their weapon... but why take the risk of not having it if you ever do need it?

I live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by cattle pastures and logging land. Do I need to lock my doors and set the alarm at my house every night? Probably not. Do I do it anyway rather than take a chance? Yes.

I think it's especially important for folks like you who live out in the country to be armed. Sure you're not in the middle of a crime riddled ghetto. But on the other hand if someone were trying to break into your house, how long would it take for help to arrive when you call 911? The old saying is true. When seconds count, the cops are minutes away.

And the arguments against carrying a firearm turn into these judgmental bashings.

"Well, don't live in a piece of shite neighborhood."

"Well, don't have a job where you have to go to piece of shite neighborhoods."

"What are you doing with your life that puts you in such dangerous situations?"

I mean, life isn't perfect. Not everyone can have a job as a software engineer, working from home in the richest suburbs, getting a blowjob by his OT 9 wife/gf, while making 400k a week.

People have jobs. People have families. They do their best to provide. Some people have to read meters, some people have to drive an hour to their jobs, some people have to go to seedy neighborhoods from time to time to make a living. It's not out of the question that they might be in a position to fight for their life.

This is one of the main reasons I switched from a semi-auto to a revolver.

I live in the middle of nowhere, I work in the middle of nowhere... not much crime that I know of around here. I still carry though because I choose to give myself a chance should I encounter the wrong individual.

Watch some of the videos... just because you comply with an armed attacker doesn't mean he's going to let you live. There are many instances where they'll pull the trigger whether you do what they tell you or not. There are no guarantees when dealing with a criminal.

The biggest risk to me is the opportunity to turn a non deadly situation into a deadly one

I'd imagine in most cases the line is pretty clear but there are of course exceptions although it seems like that's minimal.

And it's not so all or nothing as some seem to think. I carry in car and briefcase but rarely on person because that's how I judge my daily threat level, i.e., I can get to it if I need it in most cases.

But that tool doesn't get touched in a bearing manner unless I am faced with a likewise threat or a very high chance of it.

Accidental discharge
Losing a weapon
Weapon being stolen

I'm not going to babysit a loaded weapon all day long. Got too many other things to do.

Yeah, I've read case dockets that will make people cringe.

I live in a safe neighborhood, but that doesn't really mean anything nowadays.

I mean, in Jackson, a doctor in Eastover (million dollar homes) was kidnapped in his front yard at like 5 in the morning.

It's life. No matter what the risk is (death by violence, terminal illness, death by nature, etc.), we are ALL playing the percentages, the chances. The question is, what are you doing to minimize your chances?

I have guns at home, but they aren't really my go-to defense. I have a big dog. When I was looking for a dog to own, I took protection of body/property into account. We make these determinations in a lot of areas of our lives.

It speaks to his ignorance on the subject. He just sees guns as "bad" and scary". But the truth of the matter is he probably one of these people who have never fired a weapon in their life nor had a moment of training on how to use them.

I completely understand that and I have no problem with people carrying, concealed or openly

I can just list the reasons why I choose not to carry and its mainly because I fear the temptation to turn a non deadly situation into a deadly one. Once you pull the gun out, shite gets real. I'd rather comply.

And the argument, well sometimes they still kill you, well in most of those cases, they will shoot you before you have time to react anyways.

I just think that the situations where me carrying would actually benefit me are so slim to almost nonexistent, its just not something a deem necessary.
