Spinoff thread: What do I need to order off Amazon?
Posted on 3/21/16 at 6:32 am

I never shop. Hate to do it and have always let the wife take care of it.
Over the past few years, my office supply costs have gone way up. So much that I finally looked into Amazon became a prime member. I ordered everything from bulk paper to pens and got a great deal and prompt shipping.
I am never going back to local office supplies.
So here is my question.
What am I missing out on that I need to be ordering off Amazon? (Home or office)
I can't search the whole site. Help me focus. Detergent? Toiletries? How cost effective is this thing?

Damn near anything. Before you make a purchase on anything, especially electronics, look it up on amazon and check out the price.

Tools, electronics, difficult to find items, can have products you use up shipped on a regular schedule to keep stocked.

I buy printers, monitors, open signs, tables, safety mirrors, shredders, etc from there. All my stores are 2 hours away from me. If I can plan the trip (not an emergency item) I can replace it with something from Amazon.

Office supplies...
If they had a program like subscribe and save for office products that'd be great for you.
Maybe they do.
Subscribe and save is a way to manage items that you need to run a household or business when you know how often you run through them. Like snacks, diapers, paper towels, toilet paper.

If you are prime, use subscribe and save and have things like paper towels, toilet paper, air conditioner filters, razors sent automatically every 2 months at 20% off. It's a better deal and you don't have to haul it home from the store.

You can buy almost anything on Amazon. My most random purchase was an electric motor for an old box fan. I literally typed in the model number, and had a replacement for $80 shipped Prime. I have no idea where I would have found something like that locally.
If I am making a purchase over $20 and don't need it immediately, I always check Amazon first.
You can even scan barcodes within their app, which also helps price check.
Amazon also offers a store credit card. It gives you unlimited 5% cash back on everything you buy. Really helps for those big purchases or something where it may be close to the price of something locally.

Amazon gets 90% of my non-food business now, and a portion of the non-perishable food business as well. It's perfect for something you absolutely know your size or things you buy repeatedly. I was a pretty regular Amazon customer before Prime, but I would have to cobble together $25 of eligible items to get the free shipping. With prime free 2-day shipping - game changer.
I just looked for curiosity - I had 51 Amazon orders in 2015, almost 1 per week. Everything from gun parts, tools, gifts, soap molds, vacuum cleaner, television, computer parts, shaving cream, steel cut oats - an amazing variety.

Things we get regularly
Toilet Paper
Paper Towels
Dog Food
Diapers
Baby Wipes
Garbage Bags
Cleaning Supplies
TV/Movies on Smart TV
Laundry Detergent
Soap/Shampoo
Razors
And that's just the regular stuff. I buy at least one thing a week with prime. I constantly check to see if Amazon has something over other places. Honestly, the television part of it pays for the whole thing to me (I don't have cable).

For big purchases, check to see if a brick and mortar will price match it.
With most states having to pay sales tax on Amazon, if you can price match at a brick and mortar, you may as well just get it there and take it home that day.

EVERYTHING.
For real though, everything but perishable food items... unless you list somewhere that offers that service too.
In which case, EVERYTHING.
