Yea man, I used "immigrated" instead of "emigrated". Thanks for being cool about it though. Thought this board was full of assholes.

Also, there's not supposed to be a comma before because you frick head.

I have a cousin who located to Australia but lived and worked there as a resident alien. He was a career Navy guy, He married an Australian girl and later pulled in a few favors to get stationed there in one of the two permanent positions in Australia until he retired. Then picked up a job with Rio Tinto for some time, then a municipality. He stayed there for a while after his marriage ended so he could be near his kids. He is back in the states now, lives and works in Houston (has an engineering degree). He braught another Aussie back with him, he seems to have a thing for tall blondes, which he says are plentiful down under.

But I do not know any who actually emigrated elsewhere.

I know a guy who's lived in Saudi since he graduated from college. I wouldn't call it emigrating, though. It's for work, and he plans to move back to the US eventually.

My aunt and uncle.

He was USAF and they fell in love with Italy when deployed. They get back to the US about once a decade.

You don't emigrate from, you emigrate to.

You immigrate from.

Wife is Filipina. Several of her siblings and cousins have moved back after a career as a US citizen. With a modest US retirement you live well.

I'm on my first trip to the Phillipines (Cebu) right now. It is an awesome place to visit. We have toyed with the idea of retiring here, but I would never want to live that far from my kids and their growing families.

Also, it feels strange being the token white guy....

Friend of mine moved to Sweden. Had some family there so it wasn't completely starting from scratch. He comes back to visit every once in a while but I don't think he has any intentions of coming back to stay. Seems to love it.

I don't think that I do. At least none born and raised here that have left with the intention of not coming back. But where I grew up most people never left the sate, much less the country.

I know a Vietnam vet that moves to Vietnam, married a girl there and lives like a king on a modest retirement. His only gripe is the healthcare system sucks over there, he has to pre pay for everything but it's 1/4 the price as here in the US.

My grandfather was a colonel in the air force and was in Europe from world war 2 until well after he retired. Came back in his 60s or 70s I think.

I know a couple that are from different places in the U.S. Their parents went to Malawi to be missionaries. The kids grew up and got married.

They moved to Prairieville and bought a house. The wife went to LSU and built up tons of student debt. They had a baby on the government dime. They built up massive amounts of debt, pocketing the proceeds.

He had a decent job at Air Liquide so they didn't need to build all of the debt. As soon as she graduated, they sold the house and got transferred back to Malawi where they still live. They left all the debt in the US unpaid.

Don't know his status, but a friend's dad runs one of the off-shore gambling ventures in Curacao. Pretty sure he is like the Dos Equis guy over there.
