So I got a ticket the other day for speeding a school zone. It was for 38 mph in a 20 mph zone....lots of work stuff on my mind and I wasn't paying attention.
Well as it turns out in EBR I can't just pay the ticket but have to go to court. I am thinking about hiring an attorney to try and plea it down and/or represent me. Will that even help or should I just go in there without one?
My driving record doesn't in anyway affect my job and I have a pretty good driving record other than this issue.

You don't need to hire a lawyer for a traffic violation. Call and ask what can be done, has always worked for me

prepare for a hell of a damn fine...

fwiw, I agree that you should call and just ask if anything can be done (i.e. traffic school, etc.) to keep it off your record...it almost always works, if you are tactful...

Just show up to court and talk to the city attorney. He will most likely grant you a non moving violation.

Not speeding in a school zone he won't. Pay the fine and slow down.

Do you qualify for the "first time offender" offer?
If so, show up to court with your defensive driving done, cash, and be done with it.

Wife got one...not that fast though, so I don't know if this will help, but the lawyer got it reduced and she had to do some 10 minute on-line driving class. Cost was $110 and never had to go to court.

Almost twice the school zone speed limit. You can probably plea down to losing one nut rather then both, and a year of CS.

Talk to the prosecutor and work out a plea for a reduced fine. If you don't have a bd diving record and act like a decent human being you should be fine. No attorney really needed for this. They don't want a trial so you have that advantage.

Wouldn't that be more expensive than the ticket itself?

Yes, but it's probably the principle of it all. You see, this jackass doesn't feel like he should have to pay a speeding ticket because he had a lot on his mind.
