Yep. I delivered for Dominos in 95 when they were brand new. Wasn't bad then. We got tipped up in there.

That's why I think they filled it with as many regular tenants as they could get. But the amount of units led the smarter fancy folks of White Oak Landing(they didn't get rich being stupid) to believe it was intended to be filled with Sec 8.

True story, I used to live there, right when it opened up. Had a roommate and we stayed in a building essentially all to ourselves. Then we got neighbors, former Woodlawn High graduates.

Made for a very good time. Then the guys above us moved out and let's just say a less desirable crowd starting gathering in, as in poor white trash.

We moved out rather quickly.

Damn, oakleigh went tax credit? I started there and at Edgewood YEARS ago when I first got into this business.

Not now. It happened WHILE we lived there. We moved in and all was well. About 6 months go by and we notice influx of obvious poor people. My gf would come home for lunch and they'd be sitting around smoking in pajamas and hanging on the steps. We had already signed new lease and gave notice to move when new management was pleading with the good tenants to stay and promised to freeze rent, offered to let us move to a renovated unit for same rent. They seemed seriously committed to it but was too little too late for us. I don't go in there now but at least the damned gate seems operational more than one day a month.

Yeah, I got a chance to meet a few of them. They all sucked arse.

I visited my parents house the other day. Amazing the amount of land they have in a neighborhood.

Today, it's cram as many houses as you can into a neighborhood with little to no privacy.

It might have been Summer '99... but at that point no one was scared to deliver pizzas to St. Jean. That changed fast though.

The one that pulled me over was alright. There were 3 of us in the car and 3 open beers. He gave us some shite about the beers and asked if he could search my car for drugs. I let him and then he told us to enjoy the rest of the night... didn't even take the open beers out of my car.

At one point a BRPD unit pulled up and the undercover guy sent him away when he realized we didn't have drugs. He just told us to keep the beer down and left.

I assusme that's kind of a tweener between regular tenants and sec 8?

Makes sense.

The only sec8 complex I've seen worth a shite is 17232 Jefferson(Just south of Highland). It is obvious that they attract single working moms as opposed to just any lowlife who applies without a job. Its fricked up though b/c across the street at 17505 Jefferson is not sec 8. Cost more and it's not nearly as nice.

It's too bad the guy who owned the old Jay's Donuts on the corner can't put up a big "I TOLD YOU SO!" on his markerboard sign thing.

I wonder how a person can develop a planned Section 8 complex with a conscience. Sure, people of all godforesaken, tumultuous backgrounds need a place to live. But how could anyone sleep at night, knowing you're dooming a somewhat prosperous area to a slummy hell?

Of course, what's the difference between that and Tommy Spinosa being able to walk the streets of BR with his head held high, like he did nothing wrong?

It's all fricked up. I don't get it.

St. Jean is once of the worst complexes in BR. There's another awful one or two in "Mall City" area.

Are you sure about this? Im pretty sure they were "normal" residency at first. I knew several people who lived in there during my freshman year of college and there were lots of other college kids living in there at that time. This was many many years ago mind you. These apartments weren't but couple years old at the time.
