it sounds like they have a pretty solid trail advocacy program.
They must really love trails to have a program dedicated to their advocacy.

There have been rumors that Rice is going to make a run at buying them out, but that's not confirmed or anything.
They are actually surprisingly well connected in Houston, but you will need to be prepared to live in Houston a few years before going anywhere else. Basically no one LA is likely to touch you right out of the box; same goes for Dallas/Austin. Maybe you could get in somewhere SA.
I would e concerned about the price tag to possible income disparity. South Texas is very expensive, while they are fairly well connected in Houston they don't place most of their class in super high paying jobs. (UH and UT still control most of the BigLaw entry level jobs). However if you can either (1) fund a big portion of your tuition through something other than loans, (2) be at the TOP of your class, or (3) manage to live off an ADA's salary, then it South Texas can be a good school.
One final note, oral practice in the civil field is honestly relatively insignificant. If you want to do a lot of trial presentation and oral argument prepare to go into criminal law. South Texas has tons of connections and recruitment opportunities in the criminal law system in Houston. The super money making opportunities are limited though. You can go civil from Sout Texas just be prepared to be a the top of your class.
Hope that helps.

I've dealt with a ton of young attorneys from South Texas at big firms in Houston. All corporate/securities stuff. They work their asses off, but areally well paid and earning valuable experience no doubt.

It's a decent school with a great advocacy program. I work with pretty much all South Texas grads.

It is private ie expensive.
It's not that bad. Not much worse than a lot of in-state tuition for most state schools.

I like healthcare law and contract law.
in fact, the firm in my building does that and they are big players

To add more info I've been accepted there. I really think this is the direction I want to go. I'm an analytical thinker and I'm a good writer. I can see myself completely consuming myself in the law. I know it's not a great field to get into right now, but it just makes sense for me.
If you plan on living and working in Houston, the market is pretty strong here and there are tons of South Texas grads in Houston that have stroke in their firms. I would go to UH before I went to South Texas simply because the margin for error is greater, but if you graduate South Texas in the top 10% of your class, you'll get a damn good job out of school. Lower than that, and you'll get a less good job out of school. You probably can't graduate in the bottom 50 and get a job, but frankly, you can only do that at schools like Yale and Harvard.

I really want something behind the scenes (to an extent) where I can put my head down and just work. I would rather not be in a courtroom.

What was your GPA and LSAT? If you don't mind me asking.
Posted on 5/21/15 at 9:44 am to LoveThatMoney
It's one of the cheapest schools I've found to be honest.

GPA 3.75, LSAT 150. I felt a little overconfident with the LSAT and didn't study as much as I should have (which is no excuse)

Your GPA is phenomenal. Why not take a year off, bump up your LSAT, and go to a school like UH? You might even get some scholarship money with how desperate schools are right now

Exactly why I didnt go to Law School.

Ok, thanks! I'm about to take the LSAT June 8th, and I'm shooting for LSU Law. I was just wondering what your numbers were being that they wait listed you.

I meant a year off of school. Work for a year in a firm and boost that LSAT.
