If you can't get into a decent law school, maybe you shouldn't go to law school.

South Texas College of Law is to law school as Rasta's Medicine Man Universidad is to med school.

I'm not sure spending money on a bottom tier law school would be a wise investment right now

Downtown Houston...which is not bad. Moot trial contest team usually rated one the best in the nation.
It is private ie expensive.
Almost purchased by Texas A&M in the 90's but ran into interference from University of Houston Law school, Texas Tech law school and texas university law school. Issue went away when state legislature threatened to build another Vet school at Texas Tech. With a different legislature, Texas A&M just purchased Texas Wesleyan Law School in Fort Worth.
Alumni include Margaret Murray O'Hair and Dan Rather. It's not Harvard but if you want to practice law it is not a bad place.

They focus a lot on trial advocacy. Every trial competition I went to, they always had a really good team.
Depending on where you wanted to end up, it may not be a bad choice.

I know someone that just graduated from there and started at the DA's office in Houston. He had a good bit of legal experience in the court system (clerk's office and case management) to go with it, though.

To add more info I've been accepted there. I really think this is the direction I want to go. I'm an analytical thinker and I'm a good writer. I can see myself completely consuming myself in the law. I know it's not a great field to get into right now, but it just makes sense for me.

I've heard rumors around here that's it's actually pretty respected. Our general council went there and she makes serious bank.

$45-50k a year for a tier 4 school? Unless you have some serious connections, are independently wealthy, or know you can finish in the top 10% (no one knows this going into law school), then you should probably mull this decision over for a while

I'm in the camp that law school rank isn't super important, but it is important when you're talking about the cream of the crop schools (top 20-30), and the bottom tier schools (South Texas).
I don't think it should be an option that someone could take out $150k in federal loans to go to a consensus bottom tier school.

It's a tier-4 school because it's private and not associated with an undergraduate school thus barring them from ever moving up in tier.
As another poster mentioned, A&M wanted to be their main campus and there were even shirts made saying Texas A&M Law School but the powerhouse law schools (Texas, TTU, UH) pulled some political BS to cancel that; why would they care? Because South Texas would then be a reputable school with accreditation from a top-name undergraduate program and would climb up tiers thus dropping other school's enrollment.
South Texas has great rapport in Houston and, for some reason, Florida as being one of the top trial attorney law schools.

why should the lack of an undergraduate school affect how a law school is rated?

So this applies to like the eight kids who do trial team?
And even then, the whole moot court/trial team thing is wayyy overblown.
