I'm guessing there's a good chance it's not real, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is.
Terrible parents. You can believe homosexuality is sinful if you want to, but you don't beat your child. Just atrocious, and obviously not very good Christians.
That said, when Daniel found out that his parents disapproved of him being gay, he should have just left. He's obviously provoking them to a certain degree, maybe to get donations to his GoFundMe site. I'll say this, if that's the case, it's a novel way of fundraising and I don't blame him for it. But there's a lot of instability in that entire family, and now that he's got his money he needs to just leave.
