Newsflash doc, gays can't control the sound of their voice. That's not a choice either.

Not all gays are queens. Look at Rock Hudson, or John Wayne.

I don't believe it is a choice; however, nobody knows.

Additionally, choice or not, that is irrelevant to me when thinking about the legality of gay marriage, which I have always supported.

Pretty clear that this family has a lot of problems besides the kid being gay (emotional and physical abuse, ignorance, religious hypocrisy, etc).

Pretty sad video all around. I feel almost as sorry for the back asswards parents as I do for the kid. They're victims of their violent, hyperbolic, ignorant upbringing as well.

there are people who act like you are defying basic science if you do believe it is a choice, even though neither belief is grounded in proof. There is observational evidence for both sides

I get annoyed with the "you think it's a choice?! frick you redneck?!" as if the opposite belief is based on anything other than the same emotions

Personally, I don't believe it is universal either way...I think people who identify as straight AND gay do so because of a choice and people identify as straight AND gay because that's the way they are.

After watching that video the kid did not need to do all those antics. There is a ton of ignorance on both sides. To tell a religious family "Science trumps the word of God." is just asking for a beating no matter what the conversation.

That kid knew what he as getting into and he filmed it starting in mid conversation trying everything he could to rile that family up. It doesn't excuse their behavior, but being gay doesn't excuse his behavior either.

He also said: basic biology and psychology tell you all of your personality is decided in the first six weeks of life and cannot be changed? Nonsense.

I agree. He definitely seemed like the type to be stirring up drama. Having said that, I can't believe what I just watched still occurs in this day and age. How, as a mother, you can say I disown you. I just can't even fathom that. To say I've known you were gay since you were a small child. So you knew he was gay before he even knew what gay was and yet you can stand there and say he's made a choice to be gay? Are you even listening to your self?
Fine, you're a Christian and you believe that being gay goes against the word of God. Aren't you supposed to hate the sin but love the sinner? Are your lives without sin, I think not. Let's see what kind of things you do on Saturday night before you go casting someone else into the flames of hell.
Some Christians, smh.

Is it real though? The fact that they are so over the top redneck and he's so flamboyantly gay makes me wonder if it was scripted. If real, wow.

Of course it does.

This is one of the first comments in this thread:

I do not condone acting on those attractions, but I sure as hell can tell you one thing: I don't agree with the action, but I also acknowledge that living as a celibate homosexual is fricking hard.

As I once heard from a Catholic speaker, people who can do that are heroes. I have close friends who do it, and props to them.

That's exactly what I thought when I watched it. No way this is real. But it seemed a little too emotional at the end not to be real. So sad.
