Common practice lately for car thieves. They steal a plate from a vehicle that matches one they have or plan to steal.

Here are two things you can do: 1) file a police report, and 2) go to the DMV and get a new one.

just write "license applied for" on a piece of cardboard and put it in the back window. Seems to work for lots of people.

Wtf

Do I just call the DMV and get a new one? So bizarre
OMG. The car that pulled a hit and run on me a few years ago had a stolen tag on it. Probably someone took it to pop it on a drug car.

ETA: I have a yearly hit and run. 2015 was a deer. It hit me and then it ran.

The weirdest things seems to happen to your truck.

I think you are making all this shite up as some alibi, imo.

There's a Syrian somewhere driving around with your plates on his truck.

report it stolen right away. Some people do it when they steal cars they steal a plate figuring that they have a while before it's reported stolen and since it's not attached to a grand theft case, cops aren't actively looking for the plate.
Just when stopped it will come up.

I think trailer plates are the most commonly stolen.
