at least have to sit down and talk to her about at some point.

This will probably be our choice. I will try/attempt to have her not spoil shite for other kids though. That's just cruel and wrong. I don't want her to be that type of person.

Thanks for the edit part

Haha, we're white too.
I told my husband that damn elf was black. Guess I'll need to change his name from Clark to either Rico or Tyrone.

Right? Because black people don't have names like Clark, ever.

Please if you are doing the elf thing, make sure to post it on facebook for all of us that don't have kids. it is very compelling and interesting to see another elf on a goddamn shelf.

Seems like a shitty way for terrible parents to get their bad kids to behave a little before Christmas.

Do not have one

I can never look my kids in the eye and tell them lying is bad when I have been lying to them their entire childhood, and one day tell them I had been...seems hypocritical to me. I was pissed off at my parents when they finally came clean to me about Santa, was made fun of by peers at school because I "still believed" and my parents kept promising me Santa was real...My wife thinks it's cute and the magic of Christmas, she knows my stance and why, and I've told her to do what she wants, just don't include me. I prefer to teach my children the real reason to the season and leave it at that.

My wife & I are on the same page with this Elf on the Shelf business.

When, and if, the time comes where our child asks about an elf that all the other children have we will just say "Well, Santa said he doesn't need an elf to watch over you because you've been so good already."

End of story, no more elf talk and now my child has ammunition against the other kids when asked why she doesn't have/need an elf.

whatever pup, I lead my kids by example. Not lying, belief in something beyond earth, enjoying the holiday for the reason we have it in the first place.

omg...nevermind, I just realized who I was responding to. I don't give a rats arse what you think. You are a joke of a person.

Yeah, that's not going to come close to working.

I can't believe you let the OT know about your popcorn ceiling.

It might not work but I wasn't raised to get everything I wanted so hopefully I don't raise a child that expects everything they ask for.

Santa was sufficient for me. At the end of the day, it's a stuffed toy.

OK. Whatever floats your boat. I can just see your 4 or 5 year old looking up at you asking why Santa sends an elf to all the other boys and girls and not them. But hey, good luck with it.

FIFY

Does the tooth fairy come to your house? The Easter Bunny? Do you allow your kid to play cops and robbers? A kid's imagination is a terrible thing to waste.

Also, by not telling your kid that Santa Clause is not real, you are knowingly suppressing the truth from them. Do you want your kid to think that suppressing the truth is the right thing to do? After all, you lead by example.

You shouldn't let a couple internet posts be deciding factor of how you view someone to be.

Not very truthful to yourself.
Or your kids.

Are you saying that when it comes to things ranging from the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, and cops & robbers they should use their imagination but when it comes to Santa, the only option is the cold hard truth?

If your wife didn't intervene, you would be raising the most unimaginative, boring, and soon to be pissed off at dad for robbing them of their childhood, kids on the planet.
