I really don't get the behavior modification thing. Why have a magical elf from the North Pole
A magical man from the north pole is a hell of a lot better.
He sees you when your sleeping and knows when your awake. He makes a list for fricks sake.

Something white parents do for their young children to make Christmas more special and fun.
Move along.

It's a little toy you get for your kids. From what I know there are two varieties....
and
Basically the child thinks the elf has come to stay with them during Christmas. At night while the child is asleep the elf comes to life and does different things ranging from making a mess to making cookies or whatever. You'll learn more when you get married and have kids.

I first heard about it about 8-10 years ago when my wife called me one day to tell me to stop and buy one for our son that afternoon on my way home. I think it was starting to get popular up here around that time.

Some of you are absolutely miserable individuals.
You must have missed the post where I stated that we use a different "version" of the Elf, and we don't use it to threaten our kids for one month out of the year. We actually let them have some fun with it and it's part of their Christmas experience.
I was simply wondering why people use this as a behavior modification tool as opposed to the shite they do the other 11 months out of the year.

Do you really believe Santa delivers presents all over the world in one night?

Well it's coming for you in a few years when you've got kids of your own. Whoever came up with it is a genius. Or better yet, a very rich genius.

Not really. All it will take is for them to come home from school talking about all the other kids in their kindergarten class and their elves from Santa. Soon as they look up at momma and ask her why Santa has not sent them an elf, you might as well go ahead and reach for your keys because you're going to be going to the store.

My kid will not be part of this fad, you guys have fun with it though.

Don't start it...My wife take part in it and has for a few years with our youngest daughter. I refuse to be a part of lying to my children, that includes Santa. I can never look my kids in the eye and tell them lying is bad when I have been lying to them their entire childhood, and one day tell them I had been...seems hypocritical to me. I was pissed off at my parents when they finally came clean to me about Santa, was made fun of by peers at school because I "still believed" and my parents kept promising me Santa was real...My wife thinks it's cute and the magic of Christmas, she knows my stance and why, and I've told her to do what she wants, just don't include me. I prefer to teach my children the real reason to the season and leave it at that.
